you realize you completely contradict youself in this statement? look at it on paper, how much did the pens bring in for the city last year? The NHL is way to shakey of a biz to investors. They city by building an arena would essentialy be investing into the Pens and NHL.
yup, if this was years ago you could argue that they NEED a new arena and the which kid do you love best theory of “mom if pirates n steelers get one why can’t i ?”
but it’s too late, the city is broke, we lay off fireman and cops and pay parking attendents more. the city is run by idiots elected by idiots. so instead of digging a deeper hole lets use that arena until pieces of steel are rusted and falling from teh roof.
merge the city and county governments so we can get those corrupt motherfuckers the fuck out of city government. we could get a six year old to put together a better plan for this city.
yup but no one valuable to society would ever quit a well paying job to go into the relatively dirty/low paying world of politics. when our parents were kids alot of political positions were part-time and ran by successful citizens after their 9-5 jobs. look at the politicians we have now a days, only a few were successes in the private sector. most were rich kids failures or crooks, or a combination of the two.
long story short, you can’t live on credit forever and building an arena with city/cty money will pull us under
what am i contradicting?
and also, if i remember correctly when the new football and baseball stadiums were still in the plans, it got a bad reaction from the public also. but now everyone is happy its up and backs it 100%. would be no different for this new arena. im sure there r ways to make it work, such as revenues from wherever the slots go… its easy to just say ‘yep we dont have the money, so we arent doin it.’ …Mario was promised a new arena before hienz and pnc were even open.
regardless /thread. i’ll continue to talk about it on the pens board if anyone wants to talk about it any further.
‘promised’ by who… promises are gabage… mario doesn’t make revenue and mario doesn’t have a good hockey team… if anything was promised i’m sure it was contingent and something didn’t work out
i was against the tax increase from the new stadiums and i still am… nothing i can do about it but ‘vote’ against making the same mistake twice.
I also think they beleve with the updated facilities some of these bigger events won’t by pass the area due to how small the arena is (which unfortunatly it is small).
I think what they need to do is give one of those slot licences to the pens or some type of commision and use that to build a new arena.
I’m sorry but the city and county are stretch enough as it is and they don’t need to be forceing people to pay for another arena which sole purpose is hockey especially since the above mentione “bigger events” arn’t even a garentee at this point.
Pens Suck ass, what does building them a new arena do, nothing. If the shear thought of more ppl will come to see them because there is a newly built structure, thats a joke. They suck they need bettre coaches, better players. Winning generates cash, which intern, brings more ppl in, and then generates even more $ because now they will spend there money on 9.00 hotdogs, and 4.00 water. But Still The key ingredient is WINNING!
wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong… PNC is booked for events pretty much 365. Weddings, seminars, parties, job fairs, etc…
a few other points… the civic arena hosts NCAA regionals… if they had a new arena i think they 'd be more likely to get it more often than not.
the post gazette is full of writers that are flat out liar and push their personal agenda, Its hard for me to even believe the NFL scores they print. I wouldn’t take all their facts as the truth.
all the arena’s, stadiums, convention centers, shopping and development will not matter if the tax base keeps leaving the city and city keeps letting UPMC get away with murder. the city need to clean up downtown, its full of trash and i’m not talkin about mcdonalds hamburger wrappers. you have stores that appeal to a certain element and thats what you get. you also have to clean up the city one neighborhood at a time. the actaul nicer placers are become few and far between. let the suburbs deal with section 8 bull shit.
Pittsburgh is a slower paced city, I am sure there are others out non the less, but look at Orlando for instance, factor out the awesome weather they are having this year, downtown orlando is a nice open variety location for your upper class dining/shopping, all the way to you lower class thrift stores, sporting teams perform well orlando magic, plus other teams come to use there faclities for training at all times of the year. Cleaner city, faster paced and questionable 5-10 years ahead of Pittsburgh. But That whole state can generate capital very easliy. Pittsburgh I think is slowly dieing in sports, serious bus., tax inflation, rediclious car/personal laws. But hey I guess the only solution is to move! Fact, state of Fl generates more cash, will not charging a single person for state tax/local tax on your pay check, no state/emmissions testing, and offer tax free on all items twice a year. I guess they hide alot of drug money???
Fuck you cutty, the reason people move out of the city is because you the city residents voted and allowed it to get like that.
US outside of the city don’t get to vote and DON’T HAVE ONE FUCKING SAY with what goes on in that city (voting, elections, NOTHING!), but its ok you raise our taxes, and look to the people outside for help.
Your view on the city is so fucking distorted its not even funny.
yeah… there are like 5 mo-gears from my building to the barnes and noble… and about 3 or 4 gold / electronic ‘stores’… the best is gold ‘n’ communications
Any of the stats I posted earlier were pulled from various sources on the web (which I made sure I found at least 2 seemingly reputable sources for and they seem to make sense). The numbers on attendance and tickets prices are right in line. Most likely “luxury boxes” are not factored in which I knoow is a huge number, which is also a huge problem that the pens have. The area had renovations done like 5-10 years ago to upgrade crappy high-end seating. A new venue for the pens would obviously have more, higher priced accomodations than the igloo. The penguins obviously generate income to the city from taxes, parking, and side business related to the activity. The pens leaving town would be very bad for the city. For those that say how the team sucks, which tend to be the big Steeler fans, perhaps they should check to see who won the last two championships in the city and hell even the pens right now have just as good of chances as making the playoffs as the supposedly awesome Steelers.
yeah… more income for the city and more hockey fans will come running with new luxury boxes (which are bought and populated by corporations anyway) … the penguins ‘obviously’ generate commerce because of said reasons… they don’t obviously generate income… unless it’s income spending. who cares who’s a fan of what… that’s well beyond anything related to the argument of building a new arena…
a lot of the people claiming it’s totally worth it are penguin fans … :ugh: :gives:
haha. first off i don’t vote in city elections because a republican has no chance. the unions fuckd the city more than the residents.
last time i checked pittsburgh doesn’t control penn hills’ taxes. you chose to work in the city… ur problem not mine. Jokes on you jack, gimmie them duckets. if you don’t like payin city tax don’t work here, its plain and simple.
