THe Pirates Should Move

Cities bigger than Pittsburgh without an MLB team (as far as I know):

Indianapolis, IN
Columbus, OH
Memphis, TN
Charlotte, NC
Denver, CO
Nashville, TN
Portland, OR
Oklahoma City, OK
Las Vegas, NV
Long Beach, CA
Albequerque, NM
New Orleans, LA
Virginia Beach, VA
Omaha, NB
Tulsa, OK
Honolulu, HI
Colorado Springs, CO
About five Texas cities
About four Florida cities
A dozen California cities
Wichita, KS

We are the FIFTY-THIRD largest city in America.

We don’t need a pro sports team in every league, and we certainly don’t need to keep them here with taxpayer money.

here’s a great article on pittsburgh: http://pittsburgh.bizjournals.com/pittsburgh/stories/2003/08/11/editorial5.html

Pittsburgh is ONLY known as a football town. im not saying get rid of the pirates/pens as it would cause problems.

#1 it would destroy MANY jobs, bringing us back to the problems we have now. yes it may free up more money, but all that money would just go to Welfare and unemployment.

There is no real soloution

having a bigger city doesn’t entitle you to a sports franchise. If that was the case the steelers should move too.

So what the hell do we do with PNC Park if they leave under your great plan? We already paid for it, we might as well have a team playing in it.

build a NASCAR track!

Pittspeed kickball tourney~!!! :mullet:

with a few exceptions every city where they have football and baseball that town is now know for football because football has become more popular than baseball. The switch here didn;t come till the steelers got good or moved to three rivers… sounds like a bunch of bandwagon fans to me.

thats one of our financial problems, we shouldn’t have built 2 seperate facilities for the teams.

plenty of teams share a facility.

its the same as posting pics

Get Money > Build stadium
not
Build stadium > Get money

what money would a bunch of drunken hillbillies generate??

we were gonna but some key guy in the plan died.

im not saying i like steelers more than pirates or penguins.

honestly i could give 2 shits about pro sports. they all fucking blow. college, highschool and minor leauge is where its at… its when they still acctually play for the love of the game

Sure there is.

Use the freed-up space in our budget to lure an auto manufacturer or other supplier of large amounts of blue collar jobs to the area. If you want to fix the city without evicting all the residents, you have to create jobs that make the residents productive members of society with disposable incomes.

we need to worry about our future economic health, not having all the sports teams we had when we were kids and they were lucrative.

only 3-4 still share facilities and thats gonna be less when the marlins get a stadium. Fact is, 3 rivers, riverfront, veterans, busch, were all terrible for baseball but excellent for football. They should have turned 3 rivers into a football only stadium but blame it on big business and luxury suites, thats the main reason heinz was built.

we cant sell the cars we have now cause of gas prices, why should we build MORE?

i agree

renovation > rebuild

there is no reason that structure couldn’t have been renovated for the needs.

I think you are talking about the indoor track. Yes the guy died, but they are still talking about it up in New England:

Heinz was built because the Steelers are profitable.

PNC was built because the Pirates threatened to leave.

this is all an effect of the closing of the steelmills. who’s to fault? the government, the environmentalists, etc etc… here’s a novel idea, open an oil refinery, this country hasn;t done so in 40 years and it would start a new trend to help lower the cost of gasoline.

another problem with pittsburgh is there isn’t a middle ground of people that want to be productive, you have your people that work hard and you have your drunken bums and then your typical welfare recipients.

heinz and pnc were built to make money off luxury suites. If you really followed pro sports you would know about this. its a trend that started in toronto with the sky dome. you don’t follow so i wouldn’t expect you to know.

kill the hippies!!!
