Yea, my adhd is striking again. Just picked up a new project. Found and bought this gem via craigslist:
Its an unknown year winnebago camper that I picked up for a cheap $100. The frame is 100% solid with minimal surface rust. It rolls so well that I was able to use a light duty cable hand winch to pull it onto the trailer with minimal effort. It has trailer brakes, propane hook-up,etc. The plan is to convert it into an enclosed trailer for bikes, snowmobiles, etc. The plan is:
- Gut the interior but leave all the overhead cabinets in tact (great for storage). Also probably going to leave the front table/bed to use as a work bench or keep it as a table. Re-run propane to a small propane heater that I will be able to use to heat the trailer and work on anything I need to in wonderful warmth… lol. The back door will be cut approx. 2" in from each tail light and about an inch above the existing window with a heavy duty hinge on top and some heavy duty hydraulic supports to lift the whole back section just like the hatch on a car. Then mounted to the rear “bumper” will be a basic full size fold-up ramp that will latch to the back when tilted up, and give a nice ramp for easy loading when down. Also probably going to add a battery to the front by the propane, and some small lights on the inside. The windows will be great for allowing plenty of light in unlike most enclosed trailers that you can buy. Then just a quick rustoleum primer on the exterior to help stop the rust and a quick painting of the outside to just clean it up a bit. Then the last touches will be to rewire the lights, replace the broken lights, and replace the few window panes that need to be fixed. Then it will be registered and make one hell of a nice enclosed hauler. The goal is to have it mostly finished by August for Indy MotoGP (even if the finishing touches arent done, enough to be able to get the bikes to indy). I cant wait to get going on it and then ultimately get it finished and have myself an awesome enclosed trailer.
Quick story on the bullet holes; The lady we bought it from apparently had some kids feeding her animals so “I pulled out the shotgun and took a shot… then said Oh Shit when I remembered the trailer was there”. Now this trailer was about 20ft from the road and was a direct line from her house to the road. Yea, we loaded that sucker up and got the hell out of there as fast as we could… lol.
Will update as the project progresses.
