Adoption Application For Dogs

SO I’m thinking about getting a dog. I thought I’d do a good deed and consider adopting a homeless one from a shelter. I inquire about one, and get a reply that in order to be CONSIDERED to do the adoption, I must fill out this application in full. You’d think I was applying for a job with the FBI. Fucking hell, no wonder there’s so many homeless pets out there.

Our Adoption Process

If you have found THE ONE, you would like to meet and possibly be interested in adopting, it is very important to fill out the application completely . The more information we have, the better. We can help you and ensure a successful adoption by determining the best, pet and owner, match. Information, also, helps for safety reasons before we do meet/greets. Please be sure to put the original name, of animal listed, on the application

Once your application is approved, we will then schedule an appointment to make arrangement for a home visit with a dog to see how everything goes if the dog would fit into your family household and if living conditions are suitable to proceed…

But honestly reading those questions, they’re about 80% them covering their ass so they don’t get sued, 15% making sure you aren’t going to be bring the dog back in 2 weeks, and 5% making sure it has a good home.

Yep. They want to make sure that once it leaves the shelter it’s not coming back. They actually check your references too.

Good call on the shelter dog. It’s worth it. A good deed like that will balance out the -karma from that prayer rug thing…

www.joyfulrescues.com is where my shepherd mutt is from.

hahahahah wtf its soooo long! :fu:

I’d say for at least 25-30% of this, my preferred answer is “None of your business.” Because it really isn’t. And I don’t particularly want to let a bunch of random people from Medina come snooping through my home. This application has severely turned me off of the particular dog in question, and he looked like a good match too.
I mean, a vet reference? Uhh, I guess I’d use the one my family took our dog to, but the guy’s never met me in his life. What’s he going to say, “I saw his mother and father once a year for 12 years and he didn’t murder the dog”?

What kind of dog? Get a mix. Hybrid vigor will save you many a vet bill.

I want a beagle, we’ve always had them at my parents’ house and my mom made my dad agree not to replace our last one since he was the best and she was tired of all teh complications. So i decided I’m going to get one to continue on the legacy. Something young, but just past the puppy annoying stage.
This is the one in question. http://www.adoptapet.com/pet2353085.html

They probably want a shitload of information in case the new owner neglects the animal in anyway. That way it’ll be easier to find the person and throw em in jail.

I had a beagle growing up and my grandparents have never owned anything but beagles. After finally breaking that chain myself I can tell you I would NEVER go back to owning a beagle. Two reasons.

  1. They’re hunting dogs, so when they get loose they run away to go hunt. I have a herding dog now and when he gets loose you know what he does? He tries to find his herd, which is us. No more running all over town trying to figure out what rabbit my damn beagle is chasing.

  2. They’re hunting dogs, so they have a bred in desire to mask their dog scent to make them better hunters. You know how beagles accomplish this? They find the most disgusting smelling thing they can find and they roll in it. My shepherd has never once found a dead fish on the shore and thought, “wow, this would be perfect to roll in for 10 minutes”.

I sort of agree with a lot of it. The responsible people that fill it out think it’s a joke. However, there are TONS of people that take the shelter dogs and end up just abusing them and generally not providing well for the animals. It really sucks that it has come down to that.

Jay, good points. I’m in no rush, waiting for the right one to come along. The only reason I hadn’t gotten one already was cleaning the crap, and I finally negotiated a fair price with one of the roommates to take care of that

Haha my maltese does that.

My shepherd mix kills all sorts of shit in our yard. A couple of weeks ago I noticed a ratty looking toy laying on the window bench in the living room. On closer inspection it was a freshly killed rabbit that she ate the organs out of and brought the carcass inside to save for later. She also likes to go exploring. Maybe she’s mixed with beagle.

Fry, definitely sounds like she might have some kind of hound in her.

want a black lab?? :gotme:

^ Max tries to catch rabbits and squirrels but has never succeeded. He’s definitely faster in a straight line, but the rabbits agility vs the physics of a 90 lb dog going that fast give the rabbit the clear advantage. It doesn’t help that there are at least 5 places where a rabbit can get under the fence in my yard. One of these days I’m going to fix that to give Max a better shot.

I hated the beagle we had

lol one time I gave her a bone but didn’t let her out. She needed to bury it so badly that she set it on the carpet next to a big potted plant and dug the dirt out of the plant onto the carpet to try and hide the bone.

I have a dachshund and what JayS said is so true. After numerous times finding him in the backyard (or escaped out of the backyard) eating rabbits, moles, mice, birds, etc, and rolling around in the nastiest smelliest things he can find, my wife and I have both agree now that hunting dogs suck. We’re seriously ready to trade in the dachshund for something that has more than killing small furry/feathered creatures on its mind.

My lab loves to wonder then neighborhood when I forget to let her back in the house.

She sticks around for a few minutes, then she’s off. She gets to play with the neighbors dog on a few front lawns, so we have never really established firm boundaries.

If she’s within a block, she will come back when we yell for her. She used to be a magician. She managed to free herself of her runner by unclasping it and came to sit on the front porch and look in at us while we were in our living room.

Thus far, she has only killed a rat. She dropped it when the wife yelled, then it crawled off and died in the neighbors yard.

Me - 2 rats.
Traps - 2 rats.
Daisey - 1 rat.

The wife had also caught her with a live rabbit in her mouth. She let it go and it too ran away.

One time I yelled at my dog when she had just caught a rabbit, so she dropped it and it ran under the deck and died so I had to pry up boards to get the carcass. Fawk.

She caught a possum once too. I yelled at her and she dropped it. I thought it was dead so I made her go inside and I got a shovel but when I came back it was gone. They really do play possum.
