Seriously, I would have HONESTLY paid to ship one of those dogs to me if I knew about this. So screwed up.
Pretty sure forcing a sled dog bred to love -20 temperatures to live in TX is worse than anything that happened there.
My Siberian husky loves the summer?
I sort of agree with the JayS…Those dogs have been conditioned to work HARD. They would require a TON of exercise time. I can see why it would be so difficult to find them a suitable home. Although, if someone is willing to try and take them in, it’s a better situation than blasting their heads off with a shotgun.

all depends on where the lines come from. I’m willing to bet that your dog comes from a long line of dogs that were breed in the area and breed to be pets. The dogs from the story are far different. Your Siberian Husky probably wouldn’t last 2 weeks out there.
On that note though, I’ve got a Chocolate Lab that weighs about 100 pounds. He HATES the summer time. He is usually begging for water after 20 minutes in he heat. In August/July in North Carolina, I almost always take him to play at the lake since he can actually stay cool that way. Summer in buffalo isn’t really comparable to summer in the deep south.
Do more intelligent animals like cats and dogs have higher capacities for suffering than chickens, pigs, and cows? That’s about the only potential difference I see between this and, say, a feed lot where thousands of cows live in shit up to their knees for their 8 month lives taking antibiotics as maintenance to keep the inevitible infections down, or chickens that spend their entire life in a 2 cubic foot box unable to walk because they don’t have room for their muscles to develop.
The dog story is still awful and gruesome, but so is most of the industrial food system in this country.
Out of that lot of animals pigs are the smartest. Just an FYI.
Word. Chickens and cows are pretty dumb, but I understand pigs are pretty smart. Unfortunately for them, they’re not cute ‘n’ cuddly, so they get the short end of the stick. Hah.
However, I’m just glad that someone is willing to accept the idea that maybe in the scheme of things, this isn’t as much of an atrocity as everyone is making it out to be.
I still think it’s far too brutal a way to put down those dogs. Besides, if he really gave a shit, there are animal rescues/shelters and no-kill SPCA shelters available. If there’s a will, there is a way.
Don’t watch this before lunch.
(IB4 the inevitable retarded MMM, STEAK comment)
Also, I’m not trying to convert anyone to anything, or to change anyone’s behavior, just trying to point out that maybe this isn’t “that bad” in the overall scheme of fucked up shit that you’re directly involved in.
It may seem like tired rhetoric at this point, but I really just wish everyone were a bit more self aware. I’m by no means “sin-free”, but I like to think that I can at least identify personal hypocrisies, and that’s the first step to any real self change… awareness.
Fixed. I really don’t want to think about the level of suffering I’d be willing to put up with to insure the continued supply of bacon, but it’s a lot.
