Aftermarket ECU

Wondering people’s views on aftermarket ECU with full programming capabilities. Or can anyone recommemd an ecu piggyback system which can be monitored and adjusted by carputer? I know Piggyback systems can only alter A/F whereas an aftermarket ECU has full contol.

Opinions…bring em on. I’m working or a carputer system. Hoping to go the route of Aftermarket ECU but am a virgin to that.

standalone and piggybacks all require setup and tuning. that’s the hard part… not the ECU. A pretuned ECU is a good choice provided you find one or your willing to modify to meet the ECU’s pretuned parameters. Price range, tuning assets available and your modifications should dictate what you buy.

I am prepared to do or pay someone to setup and tune the aftermarket ECU. I just want to be able to run several different maps for different driving habits and be able to control it from a carputer which I am integrating into the car’s controls and settings.

I am planning on running boost next spring…so I’m just trying to source all my parts ahead of time.

if your looking to run multiple maps ( say more then two ) then your going to be VERY limited in what you can use… on top of the fact that your running a car that does not have allot of aftermarket ECU support. off the top of my head at a Ontario based consumer level , megasquirt, AEM, Haltech, EMS, motec, as stand alones… E-manage on the piggyback front… ( however best place to check for vehicle specific applications in on the maxima fourms, most of the time you’ll find companies that specialize in a speicif vehicle that really are not common knowledge to those outside that particular vehicles loop.)…

Never heard of Megasquirt…I’ve been reading their website, and its pretty much exactly what I’m looking for. Anyone here have experience with this type of tuning?

It would be a lot of fun to be able to tune and test at the track. I’m very interested in this.

I’ve heard good things about megasquirt, but it is a universal standalone that will have to be fully setup, not plug and play and doesn’t have any base maps, so you would need to do tuning upon installation, but for the price, it’s easily the best valued standalone.

Megasquirts I heard was a hard program to tune on the car… I have a friend running that on a old sentra and he said took him weeks to fully tune his car to his needs because you need to mess with every single parameter and such. I was thinking about trying it on my maxima but its just to complicated for my head to figure out and mess around with…

Megasquirt is a pretty good system and is very popular with the rotary guys (next to haltech). But I do believe that there are a couple of tuners in toronto that does Megasquirt… check out the Canadian section of rx7club and you might find something.

AnDrEw on here and SON is also very well versed in the setup of the Megasquirt system, contact him as well, He’s done a full KA to KA-T setup with one…

The MEgasquirt system can be used as a piggyback system to start with controlling only your Fuel and whatever other acc. you choose… then once you’ve got the fuel dialed in you can then set up the system to go fully standalone and control the ignition as well…

Megasquirt is a good enough system that I use it as the ECU for the rotary aircraft engines I build. That can’t be said for allot of the higher end/priced systems out there…
