Aftermarket Filter Tests

Slide, your really coming off as the person with something stuck up his ass.

I don’t really see a reason for your reaction first of all. If people on this messageboard feel a need to react in this way I will stop posting technical content all together. Just because you happen to read the messageboard that this information was cross linked from does not mean that everyone here has seen it, or that they read that page.

I find that with my A’PEX-i Power filter, it makes this whistling noise at around 20% throttle, such an odd intake but I love it :E

Thats actually pretty normal. My spoon filter in the ITR does that all the time.

Don’t stop posting good info!

Did you do that test measuring filter effectiveness and impact on power? The one showing the Apexi Power intake was the best of both worlds? If so, good job. If not, thanks for pointing us to a good piece of information. I based my decision to go Apexi on that writeup.

Cheers,
Dan

For whatever its worth, despite this test showing the Apexi filtering the best, in Z32 land people have found the K&N style (JWT or Stillen pop charger) filter to make more power than the Apexi in Z32 application.

I dont like the Apexi filters …I have had the older and newer style elements and neither of them make the sound or power that a Blitz SS SUS filters does … its personaly preference really . If you want to make power then wire mesh+bellmouth is the way to go

Well its all about personal preferance. I didn’t do the testing I linked to. I just found it and thought it would be relevent to the users here. I would love to do this kind of testing but I can’t honestly justify the dyno time considering there would be no return on my investment what so ever. To do this kind of testing correctly we would need to buy at least 1 of each of these filters and then make at least 3 passes with each installed on the car. That just starts to add up way to quick.

Has anyone seen any tests done with AEM filters? Since that’s what I just put on my car this weekend, that’s what I’d be interested in.

Maybe they use someone else’s filters…?

i have used k&n and apexi and the stuff apexi is coming out is great imo.

I belive that AEM uses a K&N filter for thier intakes. Don’t quote me on that though.

I checked before I put it in, and there were no markings whatsoever on the filter to tell me anything.

I had a K&N in my old Integra, and I know that it was wet (oiled), and this AEM one is dry…

so whats your question?

That could turn out to be a really really interesting test! I’d be curious to see the results of it all.

If you’re talking to me, I had asked if anyone knew what filter the AEM intakes used, or whether they have their own brand, because the original article interested me.

Variable thought it MIGHT be K&N, but he wasn’t sure. So I merely mentioned the differences I noticed between my old K&N, and the new AEM.

If there are any other posts you’d like recapped, please let me know.

In regards to the original article, it’s too bad that the testing is so specific to a particular model, and particular brands. I’m sure everyone on this forum would be interested to see how their own filter compares to other filters on their same model of car.

oh, my bad, i didn’t realize there was 2 other pages to this thread.

So i take it i’m the only running no-named non-oiled filter in these parts… Must be the lack of money…

I’ve got the AEM short ram on my s14. . .I got the oiled filter right before I learned of the dry one

I happen to know that your likley better off running two layers of panty hose then you are a ractive filter…It was a pretty good artical on honda tech. I will see if I can find it.

Fallen
