Sooner or later… it’s going to be more unique/rare to see a car that HASN’T been molested or “JDMed” by it’s owner.
I say keep it clean, keep it stock. Don’t “follow the sheep” as the saying goes. Spend the money on something useful IMO.
And if you are really determined about the whole tail-light thing… then I recommend you do what YOU want and what YOU like. A tattoo artist recommended this to me a while back about a tattoo I wanted -> “Get a picture of the design you want… and put it on your wall, your fridge, or wherever you are going to see it non-stop… and if you STILL like the design after 30 days, THEN I will ink it for you”. More simply put… YOU are going to be the one who has it on YOUR car… so why not get what YOU like, instead of what everyone else does?

Don’t listen to what 90% of people tell you on this board. They’re all set in what they think to be the “cool drifter image”. Those on this board respectable enough to have a decent opinion, usually keep their mouths shut about such things – or they’ll just tell you to do what you want – as they know it’s a matter of personal opinion. Do what you want to your own car, who cares what they think, it’s not their car.
As for average price I think you’d end up paying pretty close to the same amount for either one, so it’s just a matter of what you like more.
