More unintended consequences of an over reaching government. Blame pharma but realize at it was only possible because of the .gov.
Fucking bullshit.

^ Truth. You can’t blame a corporation for using a system our stupid government put in place.
You can however blame the pharmaceutical lobby who I’m sure had a big part in getting this through .gov in the first place.
pharm lobbyist DEFINITELY got this pushed through.
i disagree.
that’s like when a cop pulls you over and says “i HAVE to give you this ticket for not signalling your lane change.”. Or when a fire man says “i am can’t put out this fire, you didnt pay your $75 tax”
The government doesnt control your hands or your heart. humans are blessed with the a mind of thier own to make thier own decisions. The cop makes a choice to give a BS ticket and the fireman makes the choice to follow the letter of a poorly conceived policy.
Fortunately, there are people who act in the interest of the collective. Otherwise, wikileaks wouldnt exist… and thank god it does
There are dozens of examples of entire organizations (google for one) who put competitive pressure on government and competitors to change their policy in order to remain effective. There are also companies or individuals who come up with innovative solutions to problems more complex than this. Tons of shit in the news right now that are along these lines.
Half my clients get their drugs mail order from canada… or have PDP’s since they’re on medicare.
Sucks, but thats the way it works… Big Pharm companies are having a bunch of issues with the new bill, and they will continue to for a while… expect prices to go up… And r + d to go down…
shitty i know.

More fees, more regs, higher costs = higher prices… coupled with lowered profitability…
its not pretty, but thats the business they’re in.
i love the story about people selling aids meds from Africa back to the US… sooo good.
the reverse perspective is that the US paying higher prices subsidizes the discounts elsewhere around the world… i’m okay with that
That’s definetly a contradiction if I’ve ever saw one. People need to make up their damn minds.
“Stay outta mah healthcare gubment but fix this for me!”
When you guys say “unintended consequences” do you mean “true motivation”? I am pretty sure everyone knew exactly what was going on with this one.
No, they meant that the FDA was created as way to regulate and protect Americans. This result of this particular incident was an unintended consequence. Whoever created the FDA surely didn’t intend for corruption and greed to run things.
:picard:
If they fixed it right the first time, people wouldn’t mind the involvement. Since the gov has proven MANY MANY times before, to be incapable of getting this shit right, I now want them to just back off.
that’s like saying you want to play the lottery, but only if you can win the first time.
Obama’s “government health care” was only about the government paying for it, almost nothing to address the out of control costs. This is a great example of those out of control costs. This is a great example of why reasonable people do not support government run health care. People would support government health care if step one of their plan was to control costs, then step two was to have the government pay for it. Of course if you actually did step one there wouldn’t be a need for step two.
There, does that dumb it down enough for you?
I don’t play the lottery, because I do not believe that spending money over and over every week, with the same 1 in 18 million chance of success, is really in my best interest.
Even at that, it’s not JUST the first time…This shit has been going on for a long time, and it just keeps getting worse and worse. So why the fuck, after YEARS and YEARS of the government fucking it up, would I want the government to do ANYTHING more? I want them to do LESS.
There is also the unfortunate circumstance that the only people who understand the system and it’s pitfalls and loopholes well enough to do anything about it are vested in it’s continued proliferation.
Many countries have a lower cost model than the US and also have things managed by the government. So reducing the costs doesnt necessarily eliminate the benefit of having government invovlement.
That said, it’s great for rich people to have a market where they can buy their way to the front of the line.
That is what we ended up with because of handouts to drug companies and the medical/insurance lobby needed to get the moderates on board. Ironically the most liberal solution, socialized medicine, is also the cheapest because the gov’t can set prices. Nothing like buying an American drug made by an American company in Canada or Mexico for 1/10 the price or less. Personally, I like the french system. Gov’t sets prices, everyone gets a standard level of care, if you want more, you buy private insurance and pay for more. If the providers have some revolutionary new treatment and it adds enough value that people will pay cash or get private insurance for it, they can charge whatever they want. For basic shit, you either accept the government rate or you have no patients.
You want to make healthcare cheap? Outlaw any kind of insurance. Easy as pie.
+1 french system…

explain this one please… 'cause I’m thinking “OH HAI, you have cancer… pull $325,000 out right now or die”
I feel for anyone who goes without insurance. I take a inhaled steroid for allergies, that is $140 per month without insurance. I pay $20 but the Drug Manufacturer offers a $15 copay coupon on the website that can be downloaded once per month. So effectively $5 until they stop continuing the coupons.
I also take another drug that is a once a day pill. The price on that is $560 for a 30 day supply. $30 per month with my insurance.
The french system is actually really good. It’s nothing like what the Democrats wanted though.
