Wired using this diagram found in the installation guide that I have (in PDF format if anyone wants to see it.)
The other side of the main box just has ports for the antenna, valet switch (not used) and the 998T Bitwriter, which is some kind of programming thing I guess.
The items crossed out are not used.
There is also a relay that comes off of the orange wire, it’s for the starter kill. Four wires, these are all hooked up properly as far as I can tell. The car does start.
Red, yellow, black, green. The starter wire is a black/blue wire on the ignition harness. I cut this, the key side got the green wire, the starter side got the black wire. The red goes to a constant 12v power, and the yellow is I believe a switched 12v power. There are no other red/yellow wires on the harness to mix up. These two run from the main harness, through the relay, and out to the ignition.
Worked a few kinks out already, but here’s where I’m at. As far as I know, it’s all wired properly, and it’s getting a 12v constant signal in the proper place, and it is grounded. It’s grounded at the same point as another minor item (I’ve also tried grounding it by itself elsewhere,) but I know the grounding point itself it is good.
I’m not getting any power I don’t think. I’m not getting any activity out of the LED, and the FOB won’t do anything but light up when I push either button. I’m guessing it’s something with the alarm, but I have no idea what.
I’m assuming you have the ant plugged in… try turning the key on and then off, and immediately push the valet switch once. The led should light up. If it does than you have power, and issues elsewhere… that would be my first test.
wow, there is a way to put in and out of valet with the remote, however programming is done through the valet switch. The steps above would put the unit in valet, which would confirm a few things. You would also need to valet switch to “reprogram” the remote in case it wasn’t matched up, or if the remote lost programming…
valet switch is just a momentary switch. If you connect, you may be able to try programming mode & see if the unit works or not. Might just need the remotes programmed.
is that remote compatible with that brain. i’m not sure it will work. the python and sidewinder are 2 different products and are typically not interchangable with the remotes. go to firstbass. he’ll get you all sorted out.
missed the fact the the remote is mismatched. unless they were already paired together, it’ll need programmed. I’m not familiar with sidewinder, but python, viper, dei, valet, avital, and some clifford remotes are all compatible… just depends on the age of the system and the remote… I’ll hook ya up for a spirited ride in the Miata… I’ve also got some spare remotes and valet switches laying around… but I’m on the same side of town as Chaz, and he’s probably more available
