just use both heads
I have another 1.8T block laying around too, I should graft them and make a 3.6L I-8 twin turbo 40 valve!
stack them on top of each other and convert to steam power
lol maybe put one in the trunk. twin engine AWD!
I like this idea!
if i still had my AEB head id show you the physical differences. not just in overal port size, but the throat leading into the bowls have LESS material in the casting on the Small port head (awd/ww/wp) which limits you to have much porting of the actually runner you can do.
sure you can deburr and gasket match the port opening, but bowl work is very limited on a small port casting.
theres a reason why people run AEB castings.
stock AEB vs “ported small port” shows about the same flow. alot of the big power 1.8t guys use stock casting AEBs with upgraded valvetrain(ferrea!!! dont go supertech) and a set of CAT cams. more recently the 3658s have proven to be the best match for larger frame turbos while not killing spool but making big top end gains.
just make sure the cams get degree’d correctly, the CATs dont have any markings on the gears so if you can do it on a stand where its easy to work, and not in the car.
rent the torque plate from IE when you end up doing the cylinder work. i already talked with Hunts about it when i was going to rebuild my engine. he has the old vw stuff, but nothing for the newer watercooled engines.0
i know that head. top notch parts went into it. it almost ended up on my car :thumb
I would agree with going to see Mark at Applied Flow. He does everything from diesel pulling trucks, to Triumphs and Ducati race bikes. I have been doing business with him for a few years now and his skill and attention to detail is second to none in my experience. Also he is a great guy and I consider him to be a personal friend.
i wanna see this thing do endos!!! since it wont do wheelies
but in real life, mike u know my number and u can blow it up when ever u want for help till jan!
Good Luck. I don’t really know much about these cars, but if it was me, I wouldn’t blow all this money to have a awp head ported and built to hell when you can grab a stock port aeb head that is great from the get-go.
Yeah I saw the cut a ways on the 2 heads I know the choke point your talking. I am still trying to get that guy to sell the head. He has it listed on vortex right now, he didnt list a price and said best offer. I said $1000 :lol. He said nope I have 2900 into it, I said fine $1600. I can get the parts he has in it for $1500 and pick up a head for $300 or so. Lets see what he says now. I will tell him 1700 if need be but it wont be any more than that becasue for 100$ more I can rebuild it myself.
I dotn know squat about cams, I understand the physics and what not but dont know how to find out what I need for my setup. What would be the best way to attach that? the ones in the head I am trying to get are 3652’s in it. On a stock displacement 1.8 we expect boost to come in around 4600-4800. What do you think we can do for cam’s?
As I typed this, they guy responed back with “then go get it” lol I said $1750 is my next offer. Aparently he wants to drive a hard bargin. :ahh
3652 is pretty much a race only cam. a few have used them on the streets but you sacrifice alot down low. right now the best offering is the 3658 for an all around performer.
the head is a nasty head, alot of work done to it. if you look at the prices of heads and head work with all the parts you will see why. a CNC ported head from QED with fthe Supertech hard parts degreed to your needs is based at almost 3200/core+ 200 for Rosten ti retainers, 159 for the CAT adjustable gear, 199 for a non vvt tensioner or 399 for VVT, 200 if you want billet cams, and not sure what the cost is to upgrade from ST to Ferrea Valves
the solid lifter head is 4600$
There is also a guy selling a built solid lifter, P&P’s for $2600 on the tex now too. from canada. That would be redic, but still an option. Thats a steal of a deal there too.
Damn for that price just get a LS1
this^
LSWon in the trunk!
mk4. I saw the reply in the other thread. I dont watch the 1.8t section like a hawk, but I havnt heard of any supertech valves failing. Can you shed some light on that?
LS4 and F40 6 speed FWD.
get an fp green perfecct for your powerband
either do i, havent really been in there since last year. a few posts here and there, thats it.
look up HAENZEL he had supertechs. dropped. peter aka 02vw18t, dropped valve; supertech.
sure it could be caused by anything, but even Honda dudes are having issues with supertech valves. they stems are mushrooming where the retainer and locks go. not good.
id just buck up and do Ferrea and know youve got top notch components the first time around.
Boo to turning into drag car.
