Looking for insite here. I have a set of new 1 1/4" Diameter aluminum 4 link bars designed for an open wheel dirt or asphalt modified. They are tapped 5/8 left on 1 end and 5/8 right on the other. QA1 rod ends (Chrome Moly). I contacted the manufacture and asked them about running this set up on the street. I was told “if a modified won’t break it you won’t break it”. So i want a 2nd. opinion they would be installed in a 68 GMC SB 2WD, very mild 350 with a muncie 4 speed. I am thinking of doing this for 2 reasons. 1 leafs shot and wrap like pretzels under load. 2 want adjustable ride height (air bag).
Now you know the story. Let me have it. Good, Bad lets hear it.
Personally, I say not to.
E-mods do not creat the loads street/strip vehicles do. Don’t get me wrong they do take alot of abuse. A street vehicle will weigh at least 1000# more though. Plus if you pull a hard hooking launch it will be alot more stress than exiting a corner. Also I have yet to see a dirt circle track car use the highest grade possible rod end. They break them so often in crashes its just not worth it. Those bars are not ment to take any unitentional forces. Steel bars will give you alot more leeway. 3/4" ends would be alot better too.
sooooooooo yes they will work and probably not break imediatly, but it is a much better idea to go with steel ones.
If you are interested, we stock DOM tubing that I special ordered to be the proper wall thickness for 3/4" rod end suspension bars.
man, that is kinda scetchy… i really don’t like allum. susp. parts, in my opinion, you should try a slide a link for your leaf springs, they really work good.
Thanks for the input. I am going steel, I don’t even like aluminum rod ends. I was on the fence but not any more. Donination, do you sell the DOM by the foot or is there a mininum length. I would need around 12’ total. Roughly what am I looking to invest in steel.
I’ll have to check my price sheets tomarrow. I’ll sell it in any leangth you want.
