American Car Companies Shut Out by the Japanese

There’s no way a Honda Ridgeline can compare to a Ford for a pickup.

And people that pickups for their intended use are certainly not going to buy a Honda or Toyota.

But don’t you think it comes down to design not assembly?
Are there a lot of assembly problems?:gotme:

I think the Japanese design is what makes them number 1.

Not true in my case.
My next truck will not be a Dodge, it will be Japanese.

im not at all surprised, american car companies are quickly falling behind. the imports started later, and therefore were behind to bigin with, but they caught up fast and are now surpassing the US car companies. it wont surprise me when we start getting phased out completely

Both Toyota and Nissan both have very strong V8s that out tow the standard V8s found in the big three.

Spending money on R&D > Spending money on pensions & dealing with unions.

Ugliest truck ever created:

Eh, the big 3 will never go away, just change ownership in some form or another. I personally would love to see Toyota pair up with or buy GM, de-fuck their management and teach their manufacturing a thing or two about QC. IMO something like a Cobalt with Toyota build quality that GM could actually manufacture in a profitable way would be huuuuge.

And as for the pickup thing, I know a ton of good-ol-boy pickup types (to a certain extent myself included) who would love a Nissan Titan or Toyota Tundra. Their biggest beef with them is that they aren’t big enough and can’t tow enough. They need optional bigger V8’s or (God help the “American” truck companies) a diesel. They don’t have bad things to say about the Honda either, other than it’s not a truck. Anybody know if the Ridgeline was developed from the ground up or based on an Accord chassis or something?

Half of the Hondas listed are made right here in the U.S. by NON UNION workers.

And the Honda Ridgeline was voted Truck of the Year by both the North American International Auto Show and Truck Trend magazine. OMG NO WAY!?

no suprise there  altho as stated earlier i woulda had toyota in the pickup truck category

Fixed. Besides Evo’s generally eat clutches and transfer cases, not engines. If reliability is a concern, why didn’t the STi’s lack of sufficient oiling and eating bearings during cornering come into play?

On Topic: I’m suprised that the STi beat the Evo. I’m guessing daily drivability had more to do with it, as the STi is always said to be a more “comfortable” car than the Evo, and I’m sure the extra torque from the 2.5 helped as well.

From what the news said. Half of those Honda are built here in the states. :gotme:

The lines between import and domestic are getting thinner and thinner.

It was just a joke. :stuck_out_tongue:

I buy american cars because they are the best.
At making torque.

Unfortunately for the big three it takes more than torque to sell a car to the masses.
I agree that torque is nice though.

The Ridgeline is based on the Pilot platform (which I believe is based off the Accord). Only reason it won is because its new. It’s a poor excuse for a “real” truck. Ever notice how whatever truck is the newest in the market though always wins truck of the year

titan> ridgeline.

Avalanche > F150/Silverado/Ram > titan > ridgeline

Where’s Lexus??

Based on… ?
