I’ll get more pictures when he finishes it.

I look forward to running wheel to wheel with this car.

…don’t do too good of a job, Jay!

I’ll be suprised if he stays in AI. Your probably going to see him in CMC before to long. He’s trying to stay on a tight budget.

Yeah, well maybe he ought to keep an eye on the CMC rulebook to make sure that he won’t do anything that will be hard to undo…

We’d love to have him. I talked to the Hot Rod Magazine journalist today and we are both looking forward to some more wheel-to-wheel action. According to the latest count, we have 8 drivers with finished cars or planning on having them done this year. Very cool.

man that’s gotta be tough to get into

three words…

dukes of hazzard

the cage looks freakin awesome…

any mention of the dukes, requires a pic of daisy duke and the Lee, thems be the rules.

cage looks pretty good to

the doors are not welded shut so no dukes of hazard

Yeah but you feel pretty cool doing it.

To address your sig - go for the 305 manual over the 350 auto. I had a 350 auto and there is nothing wrong with it but they are overpriced and you can duplicate the power with a 305 with some bolt-ons. …and you want the manual.

…I destroyed the 700R4 in it at Nelsons Ledges…

That was still my favorite car I’ve ever owned:

My next daily driver will be 90-92 305TPI with a 5-speed. I just gotta wear out my current daily driver first.

I’ve got a daily driver, I need a project

I’m definitely gonna look for a black cam(89-92) with the 305/T5 combo, I really want the manual and a T-56 swap would be a long time in the making. I believe the 305/T5 had a hot cam in it that put the hp ratings a little bit below the 350. Plus didn’t it have the alum drive shaft stock? Like you said, a few bolt ons and you’d be right there with it.

Also, the coolness factor of a caged/gutted car is unmatched

Here’s a year-by-year break down - the L98 was primarily stronger on torque (my butt dyno confirmed this over the years):
http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/techdb.shtml

EDIT: If you scroll down past the table in the link above, you will see cam specs for the LB9…

Aluminum driveshafts are relatively easy to find on various fourms and IIRC, the 4th gen and 3rd gen shafts are interchangeable. I got my current aluminum driveshaft for around $100 or so.

My plan is to get an unmolested, low mileage 3rd gen (hard to find!) for my future daily driver and just keep it fairly stock and nice. I am thinking that when I am ready, I will do a national search on Autotrader.com, burn some frequent flyer miles to get the car I choose, then have some “quality time” driving it back from where ever I get it from.

Back to this Mustang - Jay, I assume this guy lives in the Pittsburgh area? If so, tell him that Beaver Run is having a lapping day on Sunday March 19th for only $100 and if it is relatively dry, I will be there testing all of my off-season changes. I am a track instructor for Beaver Run and would be glad to hang with him/run some nose-to-tail laps with him (assuming his motor won’t allow him to run away). Since I don’t know his experience level, maybe this wouldn’t be interesting to him. Dunno. Regardless, the offer is there.

I’ll let him know. I asked him if he’d be ready for the first race of the season. He wasn’t sure. He just had a fresh kid last week.

He has my sympathy and understanding.

The first NASA event is Mid Ohio on April 22-23. I am already registered and have reserved a garage. If he needs to get his comp license, he should think about registering early. The comp license schools tend to fill up quickly early in the season. (Not to mention that they cost extra.)

G92! That’s the package that has the hot cam in it!

Damn I couldn’t remember that to save my life.

That’s what I’ll be looking for, now I need to find out how rare they are and if it’s worth looking for one…

another edit- The cam specs for the 91-92 z28 305M5 G92 are different so that is the package with a hot cam. Also I’m hearing that the G92 has the dual cats and 3.42 gears which is susposed to be the reason for the extra HP. Looks like it’s pretty rare.

edit - and slow, I could never deal with that color

those are exactly my highschool colors(green and white), I would never live it down

Actually, the rear would be a 3.45 if I understand the data. This would be the Borg-Warner 9-Bolt rear. Do yourself a favor - stay away from the 9-bolts if at all possible. I had one in my old car and the posi started to go. It is cone-based which means that you can shim it (to a point) then it is junk. A new posi unit was almost $400 so I bought a second used rear. I ended up helping the posi with some Red Line 75W90NS and it worked well enough that I never did the swap. I sold the car and now have a spare 9-bolt taking up space in my dad’s garage.

Very nice rear. However, since it’s so rare it’s nearly impossible to source parts.

Yeah, it looks like you are looking for a rare beast - even more rare than the L98. I think that the only way that one of these would be worth buying is if the selling doesn’t know what he has.

will do then,

so the nine bolt borg-warner was on the 89 iroc 305 with the G92, correct?

I’d still like to find an 89 with the 305 5 spd because it looks like that year you could get the baseline 305 5spd and still have the 350s camshaft. The baseline 91-92 305 5 spd gave you the shitter cam that made less hp.

just mod the motor and be done with it

an lt1 roller cam set up/swap will work in those.

Seariously, don’t pass up a decent body with a 5 speed. Its pretty easy to make a motor beat any factory package, and sound alot nicer.
