Amherst Peeps... Who is Kathy Kaminski?

I’ve never seen so many signs for such a low level town election (she’s running for Highway Superintendent).

I don’t know Bob Anderson, the incumbent, but living in Amherst for 10 years and commuting to it for even longer I’ve never had a problem with their snow removal or other things that fall under highway. I had a street light out a couple months back, called the highway department, and a couple weeks later it was working again. I’ve used the town dump for free for cement and bought mulch for a great deal from the compost facility. Because of this I’ve been a little surprised driving around how many Kaminski signs I see. Anyone know why people are so pro-Kaminski? Or are they just anti-Anderson? If so, why the Bob hate?

I tried searching online for some info but found nothing about their respective platforms. All I did find was that Kathy Kaminski, an Amherst resident, was part of the lawsuit trying to stop the Walmart from being built in Tonawanda at the old Melody Fair site over environmental concerns, which bothers me. Even more so because the plaintiffs motions were thrown out as nothing more than typical WNY obstructionism. While working for Amherst Highway she also sued the town because after running against her boss and losing in 2007 elections she felt she was treated unfairly. No shit Sherlock, you challenged your direct supervisor, lost, and then weren’t treated as queen bee in the office anymore? That’s lawsuit worthy? You should have had a plan to GTFO if you didn’t win in the first place.

So am I missing something else? I hate going into an election with no information, even for something as dumb as highway superintendent, but neither side seems to be doing anything to explain their platform other than putting up yard signs with their name on them.

If it looks like a dumb bitch and quacks like a dumb bitch…

Sounds like the Sarah Palin of local government.

Don’t understand how she is supposed to be superintendent from the kitchen…doesn’t make sense :gotme:

I know, but it doesn’t explain all the pro-Kaminski signs. I keep expecting to find some video of Bob Anderson stomping on some Amherst housewife’s little pocket dog or something. I could understand if our roads were like the city of Buffalo after a snowfall, but even my “road to nowhere” (connects on both ends to another side street) is plowed by the time I leave a little before 7am. For being a generally anti-government person I’m pretty happy with Amherst Highway’s performance.

if its not broke dont fix it I guess, she seems to have some obvious shortcomings as well.

perhaps shes running on a “pro-blowjob & sandwiches” platform or something?

Im not an amherst resident (pendleton here) but when are they going to fix the roads that are sinking? There’s a couple roads that have cones on them for one lane and local traffic only, and its been like that for 5+ years.

On a good note for Amherst people:

The Amherst Town Board unanimously approved a $115.2 million budget for next year that would reduce spending by $672,315, or 0.6 percent, lower taxes slightly and maintain services.

You can thank Weinstein and the town board for most of that. They dug into previous supervisor Susan Grelick’s garbage contract and found out we were grossly overpaying Waste Management. http://www.buffalonews.com/city/communities/amherst/article541228.ece

Yeah, my town taxes went down about 40 bucks this year. School taxes went up so it’s not like the overall tax bill was lower.

Ya they seemed to actually make an effort to save money. Switched pension health plans to save money among other things. A+ to town government. More need to follow suit.

I’m really reluctant to vote for a woman for highway superintendent but I wasn’t impressed with the current regime this year. Basically, they changed the timing this summer at the light at Main St/Kensington/290 exit so that it only lets 1-2 cars through coming off the 290 per green and then immediately changes back. I’ve had to wait for 6-7 cycles when there’s a lot of traffic coming off the highway. I called and emailed Anderson’s department about it and never got a response. Kaminski it is.

i also noticed that change & have been meaning to complain-
half the problem is people not paying attention and the car in front of them clearing the intersection before they even let of the brake…

Any politician who promises to time the lights better would be good. The Millersport north one right by the 290 is another moronic one. Arrow is about 5 seconds so a total of 2 cars can get through it.

Fixed

sounds like you called the wrong department. thats a state hwy issue, not Amherst - call 649-1426 and log a complaint with the correct people

Joe just merge right onto Main heading towards UB South, then make that quick left onto Kings Highway. Do this all the time.

So much win

That’s my workaround but it’s a bitch cutting across all those lanes in like half a block.
JayS, not so fast, I voted for Anderson last time because the opponent was a woman. Sexism > Political Party for the highway superintendent position. I think I voted for him on a minor party line just because I couldn’t pull the trigger on the R row
