It snows a little in the southtowns last night

In case you were in the northtowns and were wondering what all the fuss was about…

I don’t see the problem

all i flipping want is a good base of snow in my backyard for my dogs to play in and to stop getting muddy. apparently that is too much to ask for when you live in amherst.

A big “fuck you” to each and every asshole who was out driving with less than passable tires for the conditions. I have no doubt they were the bulk of the problems out there from the 5+ hours I spent watching it snow in my lifted 4WD snow warrior that was useless in gridlock.

I didn’t think animals poop in Amherst.

For real. Anyone with shitty half bald all seasons in winter in buffalo is an asshole.

 Can’t even count the number of stuck assholes with bald all-seasons I had to drive around last night.

But nys is worried about window tint. When all these idiots are driving around in unsafe vehicles.

To be fair, tire tread is part of the NYS inspection. Maybe NY should mandate snow tire use like they do in Canada? Can you imagine how much people would bitch if that happened though? “It’s discrimination against the poor who can’t afford snow tires!”

I think my favorite part of that video was at 5:58 when the cop sees someone stuck right in the middle of the Milestrip exit, stops and looks at them for a second, then drops the hammer and takes off. Thanks buddy.

NF to Lancaster was completely fine. Kinda disappointed some actually.

If I get stuck behind another Prius I might just push them out of my way with my plow. WTF? Is it the Prius or the Prius driver? Ugh.

Agree 100% on the tire remarks. My sister got stuck because she was one of those assholes so we tried to leave to go help her from OP to Hamburg/Blasdell border. We took the G wagen w/ the Blizzaks on it, tossed it in low range and it was predictably fine (also the most insane vehicle in snow I’ve ever driven). I made it down California road to Milestrip at 30-45mph no issue and then hit idiot parking lot on Milestrip which had stopped completely. Tried to go around to Lake, stopped completely. Off-roaded over a bunch of curbs, medians and grass to get around all of the idiots in abandoned cars or stuck cars, got back on 219 South and just went home.

The G was fun but holy shit, I’ve never see more Kias stuck at a stop sign in 4 inches of snow before in my life.

I do agree that shows should be mandatory. Maybe not for the whole state, but at least where the snow predominantly hits. The problem is all these stupid lease cars come with 19-20 inch wheels and people won’t spend the money. Christ, our stupid van has 19s. Still got snows for it though

I wonder if that blue, upside down car is a lease. I have never leased a car but I can’t imagine they like you returning a car that has been on its roof. lol Is there some sort of penalty?

I think the minimum tread depth was established by engineers who decided it was “safe” enough for wet conditions. No way it could possibly perform in even the most minimal of snow or slush.

As far as making a certain type or tread depth mandatory for winter being a socioeconomic profile, the cars I saw spinning madly weren’t 84 Ford Escorts, they were pretty damn new and not on the “cheaper” end of the scale. So the money these motards saved on investing in decent tires was probably spent on the newest iPhone or some other non necessity but ended up costing thousands of people countless hours of their lives.

The G is on my list of vehicles to own. Can you lock all 3 of the diffs in that beast? I have seen interior pictures and it seems to show front, center, and rear diffs.

This was my ride home from work last night. Got on the thruway until I was stuck for an hour and was low on gas. I then drove up the shoulder and used the turn around to go back to hamburg and get gas.

Took me about 3 hours to make my normal 20 minute commute.

Yessir. It only allows you to engage diff lockers in low range mode, low range can be engaged while rolling. I’ve never done it over 30mph, but you can drop it to neutral and smash low range button as you see fit up to that speed for sure. I’ve used the diff lockers in snow before and honestly, the “do not use this shit on pavement” warnings plastered everywhere are pretty honest. It’s such a tall truck that the locked diff destabilizes it like crazy on a surface that could catch traction.

That said, standard low range mode w/ Blizzak DM-V2 is insane already as if high range wasn’t good enough. The standard center differential system with the two live axles and the tons of ride height is nuts. You can safely do 30mph+ through waist deep snow and it will stop and turn still - and the engine braking does 90%+ of the work for you in low range mode. The factory front and rear skids are quite literally military grade, so the truck doesn’t even notice plowing through giant blocks of shit including packed ice, etc. I drove it through downtown during the whiteout last month to help some tenants get the snowblower running for the first time that season and was hopping sidewalks with plow drifts to get around abandoned cars.

Edit: the most fun part of low range is the 8-11mpg

Lake effect warnings in effect and not having a full tank of gas. Fucking WNY noob.

I still find it pretty funny it took you 3 hours to make that drive when I went through the same area and made it from Williamsville to Ellicottville in under 2. Got lucky that where I hopped off 90 @ 219 was where 90 came to a standstill.

I have yet to use low range on my truck… but I know at some point it’ll help me out of something

That’s where all your tax money goes. To the magical weather gods that limit the snowfall.
