Android Tablets

they just dont come preloaded with the market. you can get the apk and install it tho.

edit: which is annoying… i agree

I think at this point angry birds is manditory. It should just be on the phone when you get it. I wouldn’t buy one of these off brand tablets regardless of what it’s running and it’s performance. Right not the Galaxy tab is the only Android Tablet IMO…motorola is in the process of getting theirs finished for Verizon.

I’m thinking about a Nook Color after Christmas. $250, no subsidy, no long term contract. No android market, but most apps can be sideloaded (eg: Angry Birds). its been rooted so custom roms shouldnt be too far off.

I like this guy http://www.archos.com/products/ta/archos_101it/index.html?country=us&lang=en

The nook is really an eReader that can be hacked to run somewhat of an Android OS. The only updates come from those who build the rom…not really a great idea.

The Archos tab is supposed to be pretty good. Play before you Pay however.

In my opinion its an entry level Android tablet that also doubles as an E-reader. I think it runs Android 2.1, which is vanilla eclair. Although it is an older-than-froyo build, i wouldn’t call it “somewhat of an android OS.” Its stock Android with no carrier or manufacturer BS on top. It shouldnt be long before either B&N provides an update, or some developer hacks froyo on to this thing. From what i gather, there are a few devs investing a lot of time into making the Nook a competitor with the ipad an G-tab, and for less than half the price of either one, i think it looks like a winner.

And on a side note, the android market has been hacked on to the nook as of today, so no need to sideload apps.

either way you go, buy it from me

Archos isnt that great,iPad is a superior product and I really dont even like apple all that much.

1.Technical Support BLOWS,make sure you have a couple hours of time to dedicate to a phone call.
2.You have to buy plugins for certain features to work like the web browser, cant rip dvds to it without having to buy the cinema plugin,if you want hi-def you need a plugin,if you want internet radio you also need a plugin.
3.If you do get one look for reviews of the battery life, most archos devices suck.Helps if the battery is user replaceable as well.

Apple makes well engineered products, and the iPad is no exception. Its the easiest to use, has the best interface, a large 10" quality IPS display, epic battery life, great support and apps available…

I had a iPad from launch day, it was great for light browsing, gaming, etc… I sold it a few months later for more than I paid when I got bored. It wasn’t enough of a powerhouse for what Im used to computing on. Most of the features I wanted were in the new OS 4.2.1 update that just recently came out.

However, iPad 2 is supposed to be out Sometime Jan/Feb… And its almost surely going to be very, very good. I will probably run out and stand in line to get one on launch day. Its nice to know they’re super easy to sell for what you paid or more.

I have both the iPad and the Galaxy Tab and to be honest I like the Tab much better (specs are also better). Both do exactly what I want but the Tab can be held easily in both hands to type so it gets the nod, I’m also selling my iPad if anybody is interested

how much is the wifi only version of the galaxy? cant find it anywhere…

petty sure its the same as the 3g version $600, unless you get it from AT&T then it is $650 lol

i have the 3G version for $600. you can buy it on a no contract commitment, and I’m asking the powers that be if we will discount the pricing if a contract is signed.

Another fyi, nook color is getting froyo and official market in january, no root required. I’m definitely picking one up.

as of now now contract on vzw is the only way to get a tablet, the tab would be $600 and have both wifi and 3g, though you do not need to activate the 3g service. both devices are cool, and i dont agree that the ipad blows away the tab. the only thing i can think of that it does better is sync with a mac, 2hrs more battery and maybe a bit smoother touch. i guess you could say its easier too, but i think that only matters if someone over 40 is buying it. im partial to the tab, better size (can hold in palm comfortably) fast cpu, flash web browsing, expandable memory, front and rear cameras and of course it runs android os. it will be interesting to see what shows up at CES though.

the nook color is cool!

Can the nook color do flash? and run apps from android without a root?

I bought one and didn’t get the contract…My cost out the door was like 545.

where? at verizon?

seems like way too much to me for some reason…

Yeah Verizon. I agree it was a lot but hey I like splurging on gadgets that eventually sit.
