Another broken wheel lock key!

F–k …again!

Man this is the second time I’ve broke my McGaurd key. This time I found a shop that could remove them easily. I was taking the wheels off to paint the calipers and busted the key on the first lock. The whole puzzle part of the key torn off the key and was left inside the lug.

I tried 3 shops before I found Big-O tires, awsome service and fast. They were able to pop 'em off no problem (for $40). I am really strongly considering not putting any locks back on my ride and taking my chances.

Has anyone ever come across a better design that the little puzzle piece style that McGaurd uses? It seems pretty lame to me that that little piece of steel is suppose to handle 85lbs of torque…

I use two different kinds of locks on my wheels and haven’t had one problem with them. Actually, I’m planning on doing 4 different locking nuts on each wheel, just so its that much harder to take 'em.

Try a different brand of locking nuts maybe?

Jason maybe it’s not a good idea to advertise how yours work…? Maybe PM that info…

My friend just put his work emotion cr wheels on his ride, and they have some really funky lugnuts on them, works well to deter theft IMO…

Thanks Chris… I deserved a smack for that.

Well at least they are off and I was able to paint my calipers. That Folia tec kit is great. That paint is wicked and sticks to everything and anything.

I might end up with another lock kit after all unless I can find someone who has a some replacement lugs to match my others. I stopped at a few parts stores yesterday on the way home and no one had any.
