Me and my friend here at Wyotech like to have debates and I would like to get some input from some more people.
What would you consider the best production motor ever produced? To qualify, the motor must have been in a production car that had at least 5000 car sales.
I personally side with the 2JZ-GTE being one of the best production motors. One of the strongest stock bottom ends. Non-interference motor. I’m a little tired right now so I can’t think all that well but I know theres more valid points.
Oh yeah, forgot about the one that got me to work this morning: VR6.
Actually nevermind, I don’t want this to turn into a “vote for your own motor” type of thread. I like the VR but can’t really think of a reason to call it one of the best motors ever.
Since it was really the motor/vehicle that brought the automobile to mainstream America, the that screaming 2.9L 20HP 4 cylinder in the Model T should be mentioned as the first best motor ever. Hell, at 25-30 MPG it got better gas mileage than my Jetta and it was a flex-fuel motor capable of running on gasoline or ethanol!
for me its a tough call between the rb26 and the 2JZ, both really solid motors, the ITB’s on the rb kick ass but i do belive it is an interference motor… idk hard to say.
