Don’t forget that the unions endorse Obama too.
I agree 100%
The law states that the old contract stays in place until a new one is negotiated. The City had no right to make any changes to it without the consent of the union
I agree with the 100K part but in the suburbs of Rochester there are plenty of teachers above $70k. I will definitely be there well before I retire. It took me 13 years of teaching before I had my first summer off. My wife still had to work:).
I know I could make more money if I worked at a private business but I enjoy my job. I think I am fairly compensated for what I do.
For all of you that think teachers are overpaid, you could always spend $80,000+ to go to college for six years and get a job teaching. Any takers???
i know it isn’t the point of the discussion, but…
next time the OP school teacher salaries are in the orchard park bee, or southtowns citizen, check them out. i think you’ll be amazed.
for example, i know when i was there, there were TWO librarians, of which all they had to do was bitch and students, then show them how to search on the internet for research , were making north of $80k, i shit you not. several gym teachers were making north of 80-90k. my golf coach was a gym/health teacher, and received early retirement and a healthy severance package… obviously it’s pretty tough to get a full time teaching job in the OP district, but just sayin
How old are the teacher/librarians? Different contracts for different hire dates tends to make the pay scales different.
Slasky you may be making 70k by the time you retire but I probably wont.
OP is a very rich district and should not be considered the norm, but again, you won’t find teachers getting hired today that will be making that kind of change without having administrative or coaching duties.
librarians > i want to say 45ish at the time. the one had a son that was in my class <-- their salaries were a complete joke for their responsibilities… absolutely insane
gym teachers making $> 45-55ish
my old hag of a homeroom/english teacher was there when dinosaurs roamed, so she was probably up there too.
i know a girl that was lucky and got hired right out of canisius. she was teaching 3rd grade at ellicot when she was 23-24 (super hot too, a certain someone on this board can tell you more about that… ) she was making 35k her first year
$50k Might sound about right for a OP teacher with 15 years in.
And $35k is slightly higher than the average starting salary for a teacher.
my principle at OP, farwell, had several porches and audis. i believe he raced them…
he had a 911 turbo (bad boys style) that he DD’d. the car had a roll bar, harnesses and fire extinguishers in it. the guy was like 60, lol.
I guess Teacher pay in Rochester is pretty good. I think our starting salary was $38k this year. IIRC I broke the 50k mark, with my base salary, around the 10 year mark. Coaching and clubs can add quite a bit of money too. Where I work is not even close to the top paying school around here either.
Don’t blame teachers for principal salaries those are voted on by the board of education and have nothing to do with unions.
