I think the GT would have been much more successful if it were closer to the 90k range. Yeah, the performance was much better than Viper/Corvette, but was it enough to make it 60k-90k more expensive? I think not.
As for the other cars…meh. I don’t really follow Lincoln and performance SUV’s are a stupid idea, IMO.
If I had 150k to blow.
I wouldnt blow it on the GT.
I would blow it on the new ferrari though.
And I think its that way, with a lot of people…if not most.
If you owned a gt, you were a collector, or already had some nice expensive cars.
Nope, not much. Just pointing out the futility of your arguing.
I’d have to agree with that. If I had $150K, There are a few other cars I would look to purchase before the GT.
,
Exactly… we are talking about two totally different demographics here. The reason I think limiting the production run was a good idea is that it makes the car exclusive, and retain its value. It becomes a collector car, and based upon its heritage, that was the intent from the beginning. Note that they even seem to have planned it to cease production on the 40th anniversary of its domination at LeMans.
great.
you know what?
god could have led the design process himself.
it doesn’t mean I’m sad to see it go, and it was worth 150,000 bucks.
it will more than likely be back. don’t cry.
look at the new camaro…wasn’t 2003 or 04 supposed the be the last year for them?
Violator, sorry about that other thread. So back on the topic of killing the performance SUV. Opinions?
np
I think you guys are right on the price $150 was steep. Maybe more like $100 but still a dope car. I still think a 2 year run was weaksauce.
another big reason was the car would not meet the new crash regs. that’s been known since the car came out. gub’ment wasn’t gonna change that, so bye bye GT.
It was worth the $150k, as much as a Ferrari is worth the $200k. if I had $150k, would I spend it on that car? hell no, that’s a house and I’m a cheap barstard anyway.
That sucks. That was definately a cool car. And for the $150K I would have certainly opted for the GT rather than a Ferrari. The rarity of the car outweighs the “I drive this to get pussy” appeal of a Ferrari.
rofl :word:
I am FAR from a domestic fan in any way really, but that car seemd to fulfill it’s expectations, and its void in the market for fast cars around 150K. It has had it’s run, and maybe it will be back in 10 years for a 50th annversary. I am not happy nor sad to see it go. It’s come, done its thing, and now its gone, and that’s it.
Yea me too…teh GT is a great car no doubt…but I think it was intended to be a limited production run…so i am not surprised that production will be stopping…that will just make resale on them even better…
No, it’s the same reason Chevy won’t build a 500HP camaro when they have a 500HP Z06.
Ford will not build a 500HP Shelby GT500 when they have a 500HP Ford GT. Plain and simple.
If someone was purely considered with image, I hate to break it to you but the Ford GT would be one of the last cars they’d purchase. A stripped down FORD that is a measly $150k is not how you show off that you are a billionare.
I think Ford had plans to build something else on the GT platform
Resale value of the GT just went up and is looking promising for years to come
…and to all the GT hators, the cost of ownership of a GT vs. the cost of ownership of a Ferrari are not even in the same Ballpark. Compare it to the millions of people driving around in all the 40-50K SUVs that definitely should have bought Benzs or Bimmers. You might be able to afford the buying part, but not the owning of it.
x…
And it’s not only that, Ford makes tons more money on the Tarus than the GT, it’s business. Not please the minority.
Dude. I cannot believe how completely clueless you are. Fuck HP. Jeezus. So many people are obcessed with the stupid HP # that they lose sight of everything else.
I guess I will have to be a little clearer since you still just dont get it.
The Ford GT costs $150,000 for a reason. It would be incredably ignorant for someone to assume that the GT is on the level of a Mustang and costs a similar amount to build where Ford has a $60,000+ profit margin.
Let me explain slowly. A mustang is a generic, steel, unibody, stamping that is tack welded and glued together. It is build on a standard assembly line utilizing the same construction procedures that are used to buld, a Focus, Civic, Cavalier, Explorer, ect. It also experiences the same quality materials, construction and Quality control found in regular, low grade cars. The 2001 Saleen Cost $60,000 but it was still based on a $20,000 car… based on the terrible fit and finish, material quality, dynamics, structural integrity, and NVH of a cheap car. It had plenty of horsepower but was still a junky car when you look at all the quality based factors.
A Ford GT is built completely differently. Not only is it mostly hand built but it was DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY to be a high performance vehicle. From day 1 this car was created to to perform. A mustang that the GT500 is based on (basically the same car) was created and designed to SELL AS MANY CARS AS POSSIBLE. It was designed based on COMPROMISE, to do everything ok and get by. It was designed with a V6 model to appeal to 40yr old secrataries as well as to 19yr old clowns that just want to do burnouts and drag from light to light. Its a ok car but completely subpar when compared to anything in the Ford GT’s territory.
Most people just dont understand that HP #'s dont mean anything. A great car is based on BALANCE. You can have 600hp and the only thing the car can do well is spin the tires. Unfortunately many people with the, very limited, drag race mentality will never really understand some of these basic points.
A Ford GT is built much like Ferrari builds their cars. Same quality. Its designed to that standard and built to that standard. This car was designed specifically to out class the Ferrari 360… just as Ford did in LeMans in 1966, 3 years in a row, completely dominating the field with the GT40’s… at one of the most prestigious and competetive races in the world.
To say “its just a ford” is pretty ignorant.
