any ideas on which car?

if i go the wrx route i will be buying my buddys its a 05 black and has wheels. only thing about it is r titled but i was there the day he got it off the flat bed and saw the damage and his dad fixes wreck cars on the side. couldnt even tell it was wrecked 80k on it and like i said stock 9k with wheels 8300 without… but for some reason i wanna keep loocking for a evo due to i never drove or been in one and would like to compare to a wrx. thanks for all the usefull help tj. and my mind isnt set yet so i will def keep looking for sure.

03 cobra?

i actually do like the cobras but if i got a cobra i want supercharged and arent those years non supercharged?

go to www.cars.com n look or ww.vehix.com u want an import so just buy one

The supercharged Cobras were '03-04, forgot about those.

$9k for a salvage title 80k mile WRX sounds rather high. '05 was the year the non-STi WRXs got the 2.5, bigger brakes etc though right?

Some of my WRX buddies say the short-blocks tend to go around 70k miles, not sure if there’s any truth there or not, but I’d suggest a compression and leak-down test on it (hell, I’d suggest that on any used “performance” car).

only reason i dont have any american on the mind is i have always owned imports but as i said drove a vette and a mustang both pretty damn quick and i loved the response teh sound of them i liked alot about them. i just dont know much about them and seem to be gas hogs

Are you kidding? My modded (forged 348, cam, 42# injectors, full bolt ons, open-loop tune etc) '02 Z06 can get about 30mpg steady-state 75mph cruise on the freeway. Of course, I get 5-6mpg actually on a road course, haha. On an average street driven tank of gas I get around 20mpg with mixed driving. Hell, even pulling my trailer (yes, I pull a trailer w/ race tires/tools etc behind my Z06) I get about 25mpg on the highway. And again that is with the larger than stock injectors, a cam, an open-loop tune and no real concern for mpg. My “race car” gets far better mpg than my DD (Range Rover Sport Supercharged). LoL.

Stock C5s will easily do over 30mpg freeway, especially Targas since they are actually slightly slicker aerodynamically and the non-Z06s have the MN6 trans w/ the .5:1 6th gear (Z06 has the M12 w/ a .56:1 6th).

Anyway, you said no 'vette though since it’s a 2-seater. LS1 Fbodies will do nearly as well as the 'vette, but they are less aero and 300-500lbs heavier. I tended to average in the high teens in my '99 Z/28 but it always ran pig-rich (never got a real tune in it) and I drove mostly in-town with that car… and I drove like an 18 year old with over 300rwhp, since that’s what I was. I tracked a long trip once and averaged 28.8mpg doing 80-85mph most of the way.

cause a sti or evo 8 isnt a gas hog on premium gas

i guess everything is a gas hog compared to the cars i drove. all 4cyl hondas and now a 2.2 s10…as long as what i get is getting around 18+mpg im good farthest i normally drive is to wv casinos.

Yeah, as long as you get a 6 speed F or Y body so you have the double over-drive they get insanely good mpg on the highway when you consider the power they make. Around town it can drop pretty bad, especially if you’re aggressive light to light.

Seriously. All my friends w/ Evos or STIs get much worse mileage than my Z. I’ll let you all know what it gets once the 427 is in (w/ 60# injectors and a pretty big cam).

Of course I’m partial, but Audi B6 A4’s can be had in that price range, have every luxury, can’t beat quattro in the snow, and can be modded to be fast as balls.
Mods aren’t cheap, though.

I would never buy a wrx when the prices on evo’s have come down. I know people who have owned both and the evos beat the wrx’s ass. 9k for a r title wrx is redic. I think if you bought a terminator you would not regret it.

tons of shitty cars discussed in this thread… best of luck!

Probably get a little flame for this because I own and would urge you to consider a car that isn’t popular by this or most tuner crowds…

When I was looking for my last car, I strongly considered the Wrx, and Evo, but neither puts off enough of a professional look in my opinion. They’d be a blast to drive but weren’t what I was looking for. I’ve also logged some miles in a WRX and been cramped after a few hours. For me, a little bit of a bigger car was right.

It is AWD, fits your “still want luxury” needs, can be found for about $18,000, well less if you don’t mind miles, and has 300 Hp stock and can be bolt-on modded to about 350 pretty easily. The downside, is you can’t push much over 350 and expect reliabilty out of the block although 450 on the stock block has been done.

It’s a Volvo S60R, 2006-2008 preferred if you go automatic (GT). It works for me.

2005 dodge 2500. with just a programmer you can see over 400whp. Plus you get all that other stuff u want. good gas milage, quick. baller status look.

MazdaSpeed3, great daily driver, some room for mods and still gets 30 mpg if you stay off the boost. Not a great platform to “go big” hp wise but for gas economy and power out of the box you can’t beat the price tag. Not sure how it does in the winter cause I just bought mine this summer but we will see.

Legacy GT?

I have a 2000 GSR with leather that i am putting together. Its completely stock right now. I am putting a ls motor in it.

Its not a peice of shit project.

mazda speed3 i forgot about and have heard good things…2500 would be nice too but all trucks i like them low so 2wd is the way i would go then im shit outta luck for winter. if the teg had a gsr motor in it i would look at it if the price was right.

Legacy GT or MS6 get my vote although I absolutely hated the MS6 I drove.
