Any One Running WINE

Anyone Running WINE Linux on their PC…i was looking into it but I have some questions…

  1. Is install Easy and straight forward…
  2. Do you need to reinstall all your programs or does it just transfer all ish over?
  3. Any issues runngin this over windows…
  4. Is it user friendly

What are you trying to run Wine for? You should just dual boot.

<---------- NOOB when it comes to dual bootness and ish…now if u wanna help out thats cool too

I have bootable ubuntu cds if your just trying to get a feel for unix.

well i am getting a RAM upgrade and XP is decently stable I just want a smooth running system and stuff and a guy at work mentioned WINE and other linux stuff…I am a total noob when it comes to any other operating systems that Windows…plus I need something that will still run all my CAD stuff

install ubuntu

follow instructions to install automatix2(search google)

automatix is an auto installer for neccessity programs. it includes wine. problem solved

would i have to reinstall anything else and will all my programs like autocad still work

i have no idea.

never had any reason to use wine, lemme try some things out and ill let u know

that would be cool…i mean its not a huge deal cause once i upgrade my RAM i will be fine once again…but if that works i wouldnt mind using an alternate to windows…i used SUN at UB

Ive used it once or twice. Its a shell in which you execute programs for win32 bit extensions. Didnt work out for what I wanted it to, but Ive heard of people who have never had problems.

  1. Is install Easy and straight forward… —yes if you get automatics or synaptics
  2. Do you need to reinstall all your programs or does it just transfer all ish over? you have to “reinstall”, but its useless if the program is supported by WINE
  3. Any issues runngin this over windows… Im not sure I understand the question, WINE isnt meant to be run in windows, its a Windows Emulator for running windows programs in linux, dual booting is the better option, just do it, it’s remarkably easy.
  4. Is it user friendly…not for n00bs.
