lookin to rent a houseboat for a brocation-getaway with a couple bros.
wondering if anyone has been there and what to look out for. IE are they as big of nazis about havin a few brews while floating around as they are in lake erie, etc.
Going to tow my 18’ bowrider down and just drag it around the lake with the houseboat and use it for our “landing craft” and watersports with the houseboat acting as home base.
I have no advice on Smith, but a great place for a bro-cation http://www.putinbay.com/ if you have never heard of it. Lots of bars on an island in lake erie, good times for sure.
We have gone a couple times and its not far from here. Books up quickly, plan early.
We did this a couple years ago and got lucky when our boat was in for service and they upgraded us to a bigger nicer setup. Had 2 jet skis and a smaller boat for water sports.
Amazing time and a whole lot cheaper after labor day, we went the first weekend after. I would not plan on using the houseboat as your mode of transportation during the day (based on fuel rates and speed). Drive around find a cove and have a smooth nights sleep.
No issues, actually never saw any patrol. But on the other side we did hear “stories” about people getting boarded at night and getting looted. All the people at the rental place said it was extremely rare but it might be worth having someone who is carrying just for peace of mind.
Smith Mountain Lake is Huge and a nice lake. My parent’s friends have a house on the lake. As far as i remember, they didn’t have too many issues there as long as you weren’t being reckless.
