Dear Customer,
An important message from Rogers Hi-Speed Internet
We would like to advise you that there has been excessive usage on your Rogers Hi-Speed Internet account which is in violation of our end user agreement with you and in particular, your agreement not to use the service in a way that creates an unusually large burden on our network.
Rogers has a responsibility to ensure that all of its customers experience a high quality of service and performance when using Rogers Hi-Speed Internet. Your usage consumes a disproportionate share of our network’s resources which has a negative impact on network performance. In fact, you fall within the category of less than 1% of our residential customers whose usage exceeds that of the average customer by well over 2000%.
Please be advised that it is important that your account’s usage returns to reasonable levels. Unfortunately, unless your usage pattern significantly changes starting in the next two days, we will have no choice but to suspend your Internet account for a period of seven days.
The following activities may be increasing your usage:
Engaging in peer-to-peer file sharing;
Running servers; or
Installing shareware that compromises your computer’s security.
In addition to addressing the above activities, here are some guidelines that may assist you with managing your usage of our Internet service:
Make all users of your account aware of the content of this e-mail and consider the extent of their usage;
Install virus protection software and regularly scan your PC(s) to ensure that you have downloaded the most recent versions of such software; and
Familiarize yourself with all provisions of our agreement with you (particularly prohibited uses of Rogers Hi-Speed Internet). A copy of the End User Agreement can be found at http://www.rogershelp.com/help/content/download/rh_policies/

Rogers Hi-Speed Internet
WTF else am i supposed to do with Hispeed internet? Check my email faster? Play online games? Ugh.
I miss my downloading.
Correct me if I’m wrong but this is how Rogers works. They advertise
unlimited internet time and fast speeds. They don’t advertise unlimited
bandwidth. Speed and bandwidth are two different things.
Slow down on downloading because trust me, arguging won’t really help.
One of my buddies got the exact same sh*t a few weeks ago and he
eventually got banned from Rogers Internet. He got a warning like this,
which he ignored and then he got suspsneded temporarily. Then again he
continued and got a 2nd warning. He ignored that too and finally,
his 3rd warning was his ban.
Your options are: Find out if Sympatico is in your area and if so, go ahead
and rape Rogers because then you can fall back on Sympatico. Or wait
till Sympatico comes out with Satellite services, which guarantees
smoething like 3Mb/s or 4Mb/s speeds (mega bits). Or so I believe.
I got the same email. but when I signed up I specifically asked them: “So with Rogers, I can download as much as I want?” and they said absolutely!
man, if they ever suspend me, I’d go apeshit on them.
but anyways, before the email; i would download anything and everything, 24 hours non-stop.
after the email, i stopped downloading stf for a week, and now i only downloaded stf while I was away from the computer.
yeah i got that
after a talk with various rogers employees the deal is this…
I am allowed to download as much as I want, and I’m allowed to be on the internet as much as I want, BUT… I cant be on all the time…
Yeah… doesnt make much sense, but thats what they told me
I hardly even download music anymore. I used to stream music all the time, but haven’t done so since i used to be with Sympatico. I left Bell when they implemented the 10GB download caps, and their newsgroups retention sucked. Most of my downloading is on newsgroups, and Rogers is good in that aspect. They leave the files on the server for 4-5 days. I don’t think i will ever go back to Sympatico, unless it’s a last resort.
Well my friend who got kicked off for a month just told me they got a
notice that allows them 2-months free internet and then regular internet
afterwards. Maybe this was directly to him, or it was just one of those
flyers you get in the mail…
I heard that they got rid of the download caps, but if Rogers can get on my case because i use too much bandwidth, so can Bell. I liked Bell’s customer service and speed alot more than Rogers. Even the speed has been upped since i left, same goes for Rogers, but the newsgroups retention is the problem.
I like using Rogers Newsgroups servers because of their 5 day retention, and it is my main source for downloading. I cracked last night and downloaded more Chappelle shows.
if anyone can get it, cogeco(sp) is the fastest out there. Rogers can’t get the majority of there customers to the advertized speeds because they are so large. I’ve heard cogeco(sp again) in some area’s is well over the 5mpbs. Somthing to look into if it’s offered in your area.
