Just moved and the house has 768kbps verizon DSL internet (which I am debating just forking over the extra money to get it sped up)
I have a usenet accoutn and used to download pretty regularly on FIOS and hit probably 2-5TB a month between shows, bluray movies, and games.
Anyone ever think about what they download a month and what provider you use? Any issues for downloading too much?
My laptop torrents about 100GB-1TB a month, the rest of the computers, i dont really know… But its probably around 10GB+ for them.
Our crappy 15/2MIB connection is pegged around 20 hours out of the day.
I used to pull up my graph of what I would download/upload and surprisingly it wasn’t as bad as a I expected. Now with my shitty ass connection here, maybe 100GB/mo. if that anymore…
Comcast is supposedly enacting a 250GB limit as of the 1st of this month.
Other than a 360 game now and then I really don’t download much. Movies I just find it easier and cheap enough to simply pay netflix.

I’d say prob 100-200GB a month. 3000/768 DSL. Usually around 1 or 2 360 games, some movies, lots of surfing on 5 computers, roommate is an online gaming whore, plus xbox live.
The $10 a month to go from 768 to 3000 is well worth it.

I queued 40 gigs up last night. My usenet downloads are maxing out around 600kbps though, so it takes a while. I still don’t get it, I have a 5mbps connection.

usenet doesn’t cap at all, its all fiber with no caps, its something on your end, maybe a router setting or something, have you tried turning off the modem then back on? I have roadrunner and constantly get between 1700-2000 kbps.

I think hes slower than that, 4.8 meg is fast enough to notice and not say its slow.
If he is maxing out at 600kib/s like he says he is… thats his full connection speed right there.
5 isnt a whole lot, i have 15 and its nowhere near enough.
On usenet, 15 isnt enough since you can get blazing speeds. If you are torrenting at <100 kbps, then my connection at 768 is fine.
I never used usenet, but its easy to find a torrent that will peg my 220kib/s upload limiter, and run over 1mib/s down. You just need to find a new torrent thats popular. More down would be nice, and more up is mandatory. It really needs to be around 100/100, 15/2 is stupidly poor for how much crime warner chages for it. And the latency is horrid, i get 50+ms pings to NYC with a 1m cable running gigabit through a decent router.
