KERATOCONUS
( KEHR-a-toh-kohn-nus)
Keratoconus, often abbreviated to “KC”, is a non-inflammatory eye condition in which the normally round dome-shaped cornea progressively thins causing a cone-like bulge to develop. This results in significant visual impairment. The cornea is the clear window of the eye and is responsible for refracting most of the light coming into the eye. Therefore, abnormalities of the cornea severely affect the way we see the world making simple tasks, like driving, watching TV or reading a book difficult.
Is it just based on certain things and lights? I see certain things blurry and other things clear. I thought I was just having slight vision problems like near sightedness.
every object is a bit blurry. its really noticeable in like the ft pitt tunnels, the bar of light splits vertically and the get father apart the further down the tunnel i look. its starting to affect both eyes. if i squint my right eye it will focus and the double image goes away. the left eye isn’t so lucky. Its kinda strange too cause there is this one device i had to look through, basically it was a pin hole and everything was totally clear but as soon as the perifial area was increased it got blurry again. so if i take my index and thumb and make a tiny hole and look through it its all clear but as soon as i open it up it goes back to blurry.
i’m kinda not lookin forwad to the corrections they can do. hard contacts are uncomfortable from what i hear and only about 20% of the cases qualify for conrea transplants. Thats a risk in itself.
best way to decribe it is like most people get a stigmatism is shapped like the end of a rugby ball, my stigmatism is like a youth football, more to point shape.
cutty they should beable to make you soft contacts now. I know years ago hard contacts were your only option but hell my sister has soft contacts and she has a horrible astigmatism. And she was born with a crossed eye and had surgury when she was like 1 to correct it.
I would go back to an actual eye specialist and see.
I believe my dad had cornea transplants and has no problems and it was a out paitent surgury. Also my uncle’s eye was messed up for about a decade or so from plaster falling into it. About 3 years ago he had surgury and it cleared it right up and has no vison problems any more even though his eye was screwed up for about 11 years…
it hurt my baseball career a lot. not like i was going pro but its really tough cause i’m a lefty and basically besides first base the only possition for me is an outfielder. I was always an outfielder but seein two balls comming isn;t the best thing. i would just find that one that wasn’t see through like a ghost. basically the closer it came to me the closer they would get together. It never affected my hitting, i actually improved up until i finished up in college.
I’ve been meaning to get back to the specialist for a while now. From what i read thou on the KERATOCONUS foundation website, the means by which its corrected is still hard contacts. even that they say is like balencing a saucer on the end of a football.
i found this, this is almost exactly how my sight is. http://imgo.us/vision/myvision.html its such a pain in the ass at night especially if there is rain.
