I’m trying to disassemble my PS rack on my DC and I’m having difficulties separating the rack cylinder from the housing itself. According to the Helms, it says you have to press it out and the local machine shop said it’s impossible for them to press out. Anyone have any ideas or tricks they may have used?
FWIW, the disassembly of the rack is on pg 17-50 of the Helms.
DC is an Integra right? Just so others know what kinda car you’re talking about
you can press anything out with a big enough press.
That is correct.
That’s what I’m saying. The clown got into an argument with me about it. Anyway, I was just trying to figure out if there was another trick or perhaps the clown was just full of shit…
Why do u need to remove the cylinder itself? The only thing I can think of is to try and maybe heat the housing slightly with a heat gun and use a socket slightly slightly larger than the cylinder and try and tap it out with a brass hammer maybe? I cant imagine its in very tight, neither part is very thick…
why the hell are you dissasembling it anyways? is it leaking or need replacing? just buy a new one
The socket wont work. The cylinder is too long to put a socket over it and a hammer does not work as I’ve already tried it.
Removing power steering the right way and replacing seals. Doesn’t leak and I will still have to do this to a new one.
