Anyone had a sleep study done?

Could be, the only problem is with out it I get horrible anxiety attacks chest pains ect.
I never dream does that make a difference? I really can not recall my last dream

Buying some of those breathe-right strips worked great for me at bedtime. I sleep better, and wake up refreshed, and the misses reports me snoring less (but I report drooling more for some reason)…

Anyways, that in combination with a Melatonin tablet every few days will allow me to get to sleep solidly.

My main disturbance now seems to be our cat busting down the bedroom door and whining to get in.

I’ve been on night shift for two years now, and my sleep schedule is really FUCKED up. I stay up for a 24 hour period once a week to get myself back on a day schedule, and it is hard on my body.

Not dreaming is a good thing. The only dreams you ever remember are the ones you woke up during. The fact that you don’t remember, means that you are not waking up.

This is likely a result of the medication you’re on. Sorry to say, but look the medication up online and view what the side-effects are.

Me neither. Of course I also sleep like crap and am tired a lot. :stuck_out_tongue: Of course on the rare occassions when I follow my own advice for a couple of weeks and ditch the alcohol and caffein and exercise every day I feel like I could fuck a marathon (as carnut once put it.)

I need to try a lot of the advice in this thread, but even with lots of excercise I was still having problems.

How intrusive are those sleep apnea machines?

LOL

Get more tired.

FML I better not have sleep apnea.

this should solve everything, and it’s free

Before you just buy one of those machines, I’d get a sleep study.

They wire you up with electrodes over your head (to see if you go into REM sleep), and watch you in a quiet, dark room for 8-12 hours (or up to 24 in some cases). They measure how often you go to sleep, how long it takes to get to sleep, how many times you stop breathing, etc…

But the reasons for sleep deprivation go beyond just sleep apnea (stopping breathing), so I’d get checked first.

smoke moar marijuana. i feel very rested each morning.

I swear they have a wireless head band to do the study now so you can do it at home or something I hear it on the radio all the time.now its 12:30 at night and I’m wide awake.

I’m bumping this, I have changed my diet and feel a little better, but I still feel drained 90% of the time unless I get a nap in around 2pm then I feel 110% better.
I have maybe one coffee a day sometimes none, fruits are my snacks, I work 6-7 days a week and I’m active afterwoods.
I’m looking into crossfit classes now vs a gym membership.
I still feel like I don’t sleep. What place does the sleep study around here?

Look into getting your testosterone checked. It’s a major cause of feeling tired, among other things. Low testosterone is usually prevalent in men over 50, but can definitely hit you in your 20’s. It’s a simple blood test ordered by your primary physician, which should be done to check vitamin levels anyhow to make sure you’re not deficient.

I went to UB Sleep Medicine. I had a weird blood pressure spike a couple of years ago, went up to 190 over 98. My blood presuure was typically in the normal to low range. I had a history of sleep issues, so my doc sent me for a sleep study since he couldn’t really find any other issues (stable weight, diet, etc for the previous several years)

I’d stop breathing pretty often which was causing hypoxia and elevated blood pressure. I got the machine, and my blood pressure was back to normal within a week. I sleep far better now, and don’t snore at all (which has been great for my wife). Finding a mask that fit correctly took forever, but it’s probably one of the best things I’ve done. The humidifier on the machine also seems to have helped with some other sinus issues I was having.

I snore horribly, I feel better with the diet change but I’m still horribly drained without a nap

The apnea test BLOWS! They glue fucking probes all over you including some with points that dig into your dome. Then they force you to stay on your back so they get an “accurate” reading. Accurate in quotes because for me I side sleep, taking measurements while I’m on my back isn’t real world data. Couple that with being in a strange, sterile environment and knowing they have a night vision camera that could record you sleep masturbating or awaking with morning wood…never slept worse in my life.

LMFAO. I love how he’s pretending to comfortably read that book while the hooker is out like a light. Workout, get in shape and sleep well. Fry gives the best advice yet again!

St Joes in Cheektowaga all of my studies. My Pulmonary Dr. is actually the President of the Sleep Apnea board over at St Joes…

Turns out I didn’t have sleep apnea. However the sleep study did reveal I had an abnormal sleep cycle. IIRC it was around 29% N3 w/ 12% REM for both my studies.
The first time the test found only 3 apneas through the night… not nearly enough for a diagnosis. So I went back a month later for another sleep study, and a Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), a bunch of short naps… Basically you spend 24 hours at the hospital. You sleep there, then wake up… take a nap, have breakfast (they provide), take a nap… wake up, take another nap… 2 hours of wake in between naps… I’m being very brief here, but you can read more about it or ask me…
That found me to be moderately sleepy. I think my sleep onset score was 9.7m

So I was negative for sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy (that’s what the MSLT checks for)… So then they sent me to a Psycologist and Counseling to see if I am depressed. Depression can cause extreme tiredness and unrestful/disturbed sleep. I don’t FEEL depressed, but I guess I must be… The medicine that they’ve prescribed has been working well. I’m not 100% but I’m a LOT better than I was. I take Ativan and Trazadone for sleeping (Ativan to help me fall asleep, Trazadone to keep me asleep and even out my sleep cycle), Then Cymbalta and Wellbutrin in the morning for depression/energy.

I’ve also started in the last few months getting back in to a workout routine which seems to be helping out quite a bit too. I take Opti-Men multivitamins… Outstanding vitamins. Bodybuilding.com has great nutrition info and sales on vitamins/meal replacements.

The sleep study is not bad. There was no poking, no proding… You can roll over all you want, but it was uncomfortable yes… You’re actually supposed to roll over eventually. That way they can determine what position your Apnea is worst in. That’s part of what the camera is for, they record your sleeping position visually… Typically on your back (supine) is much worse than on your side. The only part I did not like was that if I had to pee I had to ask the lady to come unhook me from the main control box so I can go pee. Lol, but it’s really not that bad. The ladies at St Joes were extremely friendly and pleasant to deal with. The bed did feel like sleeping on concrete, that was probably the worst part.

Just a heads up, the picture that was posted… The mask is not recommended because it has a high potential to leak. You’re more likely to end up using a full face mask… Which will make the setup look 10 times more inconvenient… Along with the CPAP mask pillow you should probably be using. Also if you have Sleep Apnea you’re not supposed to sleep on your back because your throat will relax and increase you AHI.

Apneasupport.org if you want to read up and hear stories about people that have it, so you know what you’re going in for.
