I know a few people on here are probably having a similar problem. I remember back in high school I could wake up jump out of bed and go go go. Now 4 years down the road, I feel like I could put my head down and sleep at my desk at work even after coffee. I can’t live like this anymore, so its time to try some new things. It’s effecting my personal life, work and social life.
I seen my doctor and will be getting blood work done Monday ( I HATE needles…)
As of now I eat like crap, sometimes only one small meal a day like a sandwich at 2-3 and thats my daily meal.
So my first change will be my diet.
I’m going to make myself eat something small for breakfast lunch and something good for dinner. No more fast food lunches.
Change #2
I’ll admit it. I’m addicted to caffeine. Coffee, pop what ever. Time to cut back.
I’m going to limit myself to 1 can during the day and one glass at home.
And this will tie into #3 but no caffeine after 8pm.
Change #3 Sleep habits
I Always fall asleep with my TV on and forget my sleep timer. This might have no effect at all but I will be turning my TV off before passing out. It never wakes me up, but if I do wake up for some reason during the night I find myself surfing the channels and watching it intill I can fall asleep again. So hopefully this will just let me wake roll over and pass back out.
I know working out is something that has been recommended, right now thats not much of an option. My shoulder is toast and needs to be rested, I also have an apt. Monday at the orthopedics to find out why this has been a problem for the last 8 years…
I will update this thread with results of what seems to help as time goes on.
Any other info is welcome  As I can not live like this any longer.
Your diet will make a HUGE difference so definitely start with that. Eat a good breakfast everyday. That’s what provides you with nutrients to function properly. Think about it, every day you wake up just after going at least 8 hours without food or water, so your body needs it. I’ve noticed that how I feel throughout the day is directly proportional to my diet. Eat like shit, feel like siht.
You have a thyroid disorder. I give you about 3 days left to live. Sorry.
I have had this problem recently but it is because the pregnant wife doesn’t sleep so I am up all night. I do not drink coffee, but I make up for that in Beer. I never sleep with the TV on as I then have to get up to turn it off. I also piss before bed so that I do not have to get up and do that either. I will try and focus on this a little more later, but this is my quick reply.
This week I started plowing. that means getting up at 220am. I go to bed around 930. Somehow I manage to go all day with out a nap or crashing, I only have one coffee around 10am.
also, try getting to the gym. Idk where you could go out in the boonies, but that will definitely help too.
Eat better. That is porbably the biggest thing. Take your TV out of your room and get a book. I hate reading and fine it to be incredibly boring but I often find myself passing out after ten to twelve pages. I use a yellowed light which keeps it dimmer. Do not use a laptop Kindl (sp) or any of the like because the light from the LCD screen will keep you up.
I can’t work out with my shoulder. I have an apt Monday to get it looked at as stated above. I have an indoor pool so once I get answers form the orthopedics I will consider swimming a few laps. I’m so tired I can’t motivate my self to do anything.
The recipe is pretty simple here…eat better and get some exercise in. Ditch the caffeine and go for some walks/light runs and post back in a week. Baby steps here but I guarantee you you will have more energy.
you just have to force your self to do it, its kind of along the same lines as having to eat (properly) to lose weight. I know it seems counter intuitive but it works. Just dont work out 2-3 hours before you plan on going to bed.
that sucks about your shoulder but there has to be something you can do for 30 mins a day to get your heart rate up for a while. (swimming, running, situps, preacher curls, etc)
Every morning I have 2 pieces of whole wheat toast, one with nutella and one with peanut butter, you need protein and complex carbs in the am, plus nutella is f’ing delicious
Drink water, get the tv out of your room, limit yourself to 1 cup of coffee (without sugar) or maybe an energy drink only when you really need it
Just to give you an idea as to how important it is to eat healthy:
When I lived in Hawaii I was having the same problem. I was VERY active in Hawaii. I surfed almost every single day, ran about 3 miles every other day, hiked all the time, worked out on campus a few days a week, etc. BUT I ate like shit. It drove me nuts at the time because I didn’t realize it could have such a huge effect, but it does. it wasn’t until I moved back here that I started to figure it out. Life is a lot better when you have the energy to be alert and productive all day.
And speaking of this, my diet has slipped immensely in recent months. I haven’t been grocery shopping in over a month.
Paulo also eats chicken mcnuggets, chipotle, and chinese food…and nothing else.
Last June I ran a marathon. With about 6 months of running leading up to this I watched my diet and exercised regularily. Race day I was 168lbs. and in the absolute best shape of my life, at 30 years old. I’ve slowed up since then and eat like Paulo…it’s been a few weeks but I’m back to about 182 and feeling like shit.
Good food. Exercise. That’s all you need to do. Ease into it and you’ll understand how easy it is. Lose focus and you’ll fall off.
I sleep between 6-9 hours. 9 is my MAX after that I have to get up and do something.
And I don’t snack, I just don’t eat i’l have a sandwich around lunch and thats it.
UPDATE:
Yesterday I had coffee and a bagel for breakfast. I wasn’t hungry but I made myself eat. I was so busy at work I did not have time to stop for lunch and left at 3 for blood work.
I regret that. I nearly blacked out. So after lying down for a half hour on a cold x ray table I drove my ass to subway, a mile form the dr office and ate half a sub. I went home and passed out for a bit while the shop warmed up. I went out to replace some fuel lines on the truck and still didn’t feel 100 %. I stoked the fire, showed drank a glass of water and went to bed.
I didn’t want to get up this morning, mostly because my room was freezing. Once I was up and going I can say I feel WAY better today. So I’ll be working on this diet thing a lot more.
Yes NYspeed was right… I still think there is more to it. I can deal with this level of tiredness. the last few weeks have be HORRIBLE.
I have WAY more energy when I exercise. After a good ride I’m wired, I’ll shower and then do all kinds of shit. Mow the lawn, clean up the yard, or any other tasks that need to be done that normally I’m meh about. Also, if the woman asks me to do something like fix this or do that I will do it right then and there instead of telling the wench yeah yeah yeah just to get her off my back and then not doing it for a few days. Diet thing-when I’m riding alot during the summer I watch what I eat to a point, but, I never eat shit like McDonalds or that really shitty fast food. I’ll have pizza on a special occasion but I’m not that annoying prick that won’t eat somewhere as it doesn’t have an organic menu or fair trade horse shit. I started to eat better before I really got back into being a shaved leg roadie faggot and that started to give me more energy right there. I will never give up candy though, that is my one weakness. Cutting out fats is no problem for me but the Dots, Ju Ju Fruits, Sweedish Fish, I exist on those. Now, I’m so fucking boring that if I can sleep in past 6am I’m estatic. If I can sleep though the night and not wake up at 3am, like WIDE awake someone turned on the switch kind of awake I’m doing good. At least two times this week I woke up at 3am and had to stay up as I could not go back to bed.
if you aren’t hungry in the morning, especially after only eating one meal, something sounds way off. That was probably less than 600 calories all day with the bagel and half sub. Why are you not eating? Energy comes from food. Try to make some home made meals.
