Anyone heard of the "University at Buffalo Boxing Club"?

Im looking to find a boxing club where I can get into the sport. I went onto google and typed in “boxing in buffalo” and this website came up:

http://wings.buffalo.edu/sa/boxing/index.htm

Anyone heard of this? Do you have to be a UB student to join? Price?

ANY info would be great.

there is no price if you are a student… but if you can get into the gym on sunday ( which is super easy ) then you dont have anything to worry about

just go to one of the sunday meetings

edit: i dont know if it’s still around though, i don’t see why it wouldnt be

Ya I saw the UB one and then saw the lackawana(sp?) community boxing center. Anyone know anything about that one?

i was interested in that too but never went to check it out. do the legwork and let me know =)

there is a boxing club at the high school on union by the galleria i believe, but its only once a week

This looks cool, I wonder if it’s strictly boxing or maybe a little bit of kickboxing?

just boxing

its just boxing, former pro teaches it. Usually about 25-30 kids show up. Min of approx 6 months before sparring, if you’re good.

I went for about 2 months before finding Rugby.

Hey, First Rule About Fight Club… Don’t Talk About Fight Club.

is it free?!

i’d be super down for this.

i really don’t know if it is or isn’t. it’s at the high school next to M+T bank on union i believe… one night a week only. i doubt its anything more than guys standing around and talking about ‘pugulists’ with a bunch of high school kids thinking they can knock each other out.

fightin mike, what’d you think of the UB boxing? how recently did you go

yea it is… they meet at clark on south… they have a ring now. its a good time, i havent gone in a while… im reconsidering. but i just started going to the gym again, so we will see what happens…

The last time I went was more than a year. Saturday was a “learning” day, tues & thurs were conditioning. All was held in Clark hall in the basement. It was fun, not exactly free, they ask for dues, since its a club there’s very little money. Lot of really knowledgeable people super willing to help n00bs.

+1… dont expect to go and be sparring… the first 2 weeks you will most likely be doing a jab with ur weak arm… untill you improve on that, then you can move on… you will learn a lot if you stick with it though… that is for sure

It’d be stupid to just go in there and start sparring. Learn nothing and it’s basically just a fight with gloves on. How “not exactly free” is it? I was going to join a club downtown at the olympia gym. Like $50 a month but they have very nice equipment and a nice rink.

Ya Id be down for joining some kind of club as long as the dues were <$100 a month. I dont know if thats pushing or not. Anyone know anything about the Lackawanna Community boxing center? I want to get into this but I dont want to deal with people who think they are hard asses and they can beat the shit out of everyone and their mother. Im looking to get into shape and learn.

I can’t remember the exact monetary amount, it wasn’t too much, well under $100.

EDIT: this is the UB Boxing Club, sorry

:word: Which club are you talking about?

if you want to get good, Casal’s in Niagara Falls is the best in Buffalo. They trained Les Ralston, the 24 year old Buffalo kid that was undefeated until he lost to The Contender Champion Sergio “the latin snake” Mora. Get you’re Cardio up before you join.

ya buy a jump rope do it until ur only jumpin an inch off the ground

Niagara falls is to far away for me to go every other day or whatever. Im just looking for something to get into shape, have fun doing it, release some aggretion, and learn how to box.
