I’m gonna have to wire the new Hummer building when it gets finished and I am fine on the data part of it, but i am having a few quaetions on the phone side of it. Right now we are running a VOIP system.
I want to use Cat5 as the cabling to each phone jack. now i know the phone jacks have red, green, black and yellow as thier color scheme. Which of those colors matches up with the different colors on the 4 pair Cat5 cable?
any help would be appreciated as i have been looking online for over an hour now
depends on how you wrap your wires… different voip systems use differnt things… i run a 4 channel with a 2 wire failover on phone ports… so i’m dealing with a 6 wire setup on 4 wire phones… the wall port is wehre the 6 get wired to 4 and put through. what exactly are you asking? run 8 wires out of 2 ports and split the 8 wires to 4 wires for 2 phones… that’s what i do, but then again, i run 2 channels per office per port…
if you are useing a voip set up a normal 4 pin red green black yellow will not work i dont think, get your self some rj48c or rj48x jacks the only diff is the x will throw a loop back when nothing is plugged in
well when we went voip here at first we just reused the old jacks, so i think they just redid the punch panels.
The hummer building is brand new, so im trying to figure the best way to run the wires
if its a brand new building run a ton of cat5e from your demardc to two patch panals 1 for data 1for vaoicew then you voip switch should do the rest. but it all depends on the switch also you are going to have to worry about power over eithernet to power the phones unless they have stand alone units…or you could out source this job to me and my buddies… i amsure we could help for a small and by small i mean big fee… check out the book beyound voip protocalls…wiley publicaions written by olivier hersent … thats who taught me
