Anyone know Jonathon Cote?

Fucking hell. I thought this only happened in the movies.

MIAMI — A senior U.S. official confirmed to FOX News that the severed fingers of five Western hostages were delivered to U.S. government officials in Iraq, giving the men’s relatives hope that they are still alive.

The six missing are Reuben, a former St. Louis Park, Minn., police officer; Joshua Munns of Redding, Calif.; John Young of Kansas City, whose finger was not among those sent to officials; Jonathon Cote of the Buffalo, N.Y., area; Bert Nussbaumer of Austria; and Withrow.

wow wtf. Sometimes I wonder about the “outrageous” things we see in the movies, and how they really do happen.

pics?

damn

A good friend of mine from work is actually his cousin, she and family actually just had a benefit for him right before winter if I’m not mistaken.

A benefit? What? What good would money do him?

I’m not doubting you, I just don’t get it.

Milking a situation for personal benefit, or they have a family stateside perhaps.

I think there are some people on here that know him

I know someone who does.

such a messed up situation, they have been missing for some time now

usually they are more of a support thing for the family…

Yeah that makes sense. I would have assumed that the company he was working for would be compensating the family nicely, but assuming has never really gotten me far.

Sucks. The story said they were kidnapped November 16, 2006.

Don’t assume that all companies have wrm & fuzzy departments.

Terrible situation. The family was on the news and was happy about this development because it’s a proof of life, which at least gives them something to hope for. I don’t even want to imagine a situation where getting a finger of a loved one is “good” news.

This is the real scary side of going into a warzone as a private contractor.

THEY SIGNED UP FOR IT LIKE IT WAS A VARIABLE RATE 50YR LOAN, AND SAID “PLEASE SIR, MAY I HAVE ANOTHER”.

Truth, but I feel a lot more pity for a family who has a loved one being tortured than some moron who bought more house than he can afford and might lose it.

Plus, there is a real need for those contractors in Iraq. There is no need for someone making 60k a year to buy a 250k house.

lol, side story:

I was talking to a borrower a while back, and we’re discussing terms and ish… There is a bunch of horrible background noise all of the sudden, and the lines dead. I get a call back ~3 hours later.

She tells me: “Yea, we rolled through some trouble. I should’ve warned youthat I mayhave to hang up at any time, no offense. We have to respond to threats pretty constantly - they just don’t usually open fire.”
Me: “:bloated:”
pause…
Me: “So, I guess I don’t have to ask why you make $XXX,XXX as an “admin” w/Blackwater eh?”

I know someone that was involved with the benefit for Jonathan Cote…so sad that he hasn’t been returned to his family yet and is probably being tortured :frowning:

went to highschool with him…he’s such a nice guy…i hate having hearing about this…

his family set up a website www.freecote.com

My mom and his mom set up the benifit, nasty to hear but in a way its good to know they are still alive

this is horrible. one of the reasons i cant wait to get over there (as a soldier not contractor) and fuck shit up.

yeah thats the website

trust me its not milking the situation. they are a very nice family, its an incredibly difficult situation for the entire family, the benefits are to help raise awareness of the ordeal and spread the word about it. since they were private contractors, the military doesn’t have much to do with it, so any rescue operation or military operation to find them would have to first be passed by congress, which is why the family needs the support of politicians.
