What do you prefer? I am in the hunt for a new apartment so intrested to hear your opinions on different setups? I have always live in a complex and this summer been in a full house. What are you expierneces with the other ones?
Duplex - house with side by side setup
U/L - Upper and lower sections of houses
Complex - individual rooms in a building
My new apartment is a duplex and it’s so much better because I feel like I live in my own house. I never see my neighbor, because I don’t have to constantly go down the stairs and see her going into her apartment and shit. Plus it’s SO MUCH bigger.
My last apartment we were upstairs, and it just felt like there wasn’t a lot of privacy. I think the lady was nosey anyways. Plus it sucked because the downstairs lady got to use the driveway. Fucking stupid. Like, we didn’t even have an option of using it because she already had it when we moved in. Now I have my own driveway. Having a driveway fucking rules.
But obviously, I’d like to have my own house eventually.
Ive been in so many apartments. The past 2 years I’ve been in 6 apartments…
Out of all of them I like a complex the best. Top floor, never deal with shitty noise above you, and typically have nice vaulted ceilings. Middle you get a chance at noise, but being sandwiched your util bills are almost always cheaper. Lower, ease of access with being on the first floor.
Currently I’m in the middle and have yet to have to turn on my heat this winter (and yes it was chilly down here in VA these past few days).
I live in a complex right now, it’s not bad for what it is. I believe it’s 920 sq ft. with cathedral ceilings and garage space. Real quiet, lots of old people, tons of parking, and is centrally located for my current needs.
Im partial to apartments in certain parts of the city though. I think i might head that direction when my lease is up and find an upper in the elmwood/allen/richmond area if they are similar to my friends pads…
When I lived on Elmwood and all the stuff that happened, I vowed to live anywhere outside the loop… my next apartment was def outside the loop (by about 500 miles)
i live in an upper lower, I got the upper which is nice because i get the heat thru the floors, but sucks because i hear every goddamn noise. I lived in 2 complexs before and thats something ill never do again, both times turned out to be shitty so yeah never again. If i ever decide to rent again its either goin to be rent a house or buy one an no more renting.
i like converted houses as apartments (typically up and down type), more unique features instead of the cookie cutter complexes.
either way you will probably get noises. having the upstairs sucks when moving in/out because of couches/king size beds but other than that you hear most foot steps from dogs on wood floors and bass from subs when you are on the first.
i would say having a drive way + garage space trumps all.
The only clear answer, isn’t in the poll. “The Ritz” would be my answer. Great roommates, a parking lot for a drive way, cheap rent, a porch to booze and carouse on, the fact that you can wake up to a symphony of teen tuba players practicing for recitals and most importantly…no neighbors and the ability to throw a party that fills the entire driveway.
in a duplex u also generally get your own half of a basement, well maybe
when we were renting out the other side of our duplex we had a wall that allowed for basement space and could get more rent that way, of course our side was bigger tho lol
