As for guns, no one needs an SKS…at least not now. Conversely though no one needs a Prada purse, a Gucci watch, or plasma TV either, but we don’t outlaw those. That is why I support full freedom in this area.
I can see why people support universal health care. My knowledge of economics thus far has shown me that such a system will cause an increase in the cost and a decrease in the level of care. This situation will give rise to a private system that provides better care. Thus, the end result is that people who can’t pay are able to have care, but of a poor quality, much like now. And the wealthy will pay for the premium care they want…just as they do now.
The only real difference is for the working/middle class. They will be forced to pay for the government care plan through taxation, but may not be able to afford the higher private care. Thus they’ll be bearing the financial burden (unlike the poor), yet receiving the same care. Those in the middle class that choose to pay for the private health coverage will be forced to pay twice.
I wouldn’t stick to that economic theory so strongly, but it seems to be true in Canada right now.
I assume you meant something along the lines of “no one needs an assault weapon”…tell that to the Asian shop owners who protected their stores with AKs during the LA riots. The police weren’t able to protect everyone, and a handgun or hunting rifle isn’t doing you much good when you’ve got 100 angry people bent on doing you harm.
It’s a traditional style rifle with a long wood stock and everything. There are hunting rifles with way more firepower and it’s a far cry from an “assault rifle”.
I disagree with you anyway, but your example would’ve been better if you said “AR-15” or “AK-47”. The SKS just doesn’t seem that scary. Maybe it’s the bayonet that does it for you…

If you had a plan where the govt would help pay for your college, under the conditions that you hold a certain GPA and graduate, and if you don’t then you are liable to repay said loans, I would be cool with that.
in all honesty, a semi-auto shotgun with an extended magazine would be a far more devastating weapon than a machine gun. M16’s shoot varmint hunting rounds (.223). The fact that you can hold the trigger in and it continues to fire rather than having to pull the trigger for each round really doesn’t make the weapon more dangerous IMHO.
I mean, anyone can go out and buy a .50 cal that you could use to shoot down airliners, but a varmint gun that cycles automatically is what we’re worried about. It’s all about the image and the stigma that these weapons carry. Not that YOU didn’t know this, speaking to everyone in general.
You really don’t know why the 2nd amendment was created do you? Without the right to own a firearm, you don’t have any rights! Ask those who lived in Germany before WWII, when the Nazi’s collected every weapon from the citizens.
