I’ve been debating on setting up a 50-90 gallon aquarium in my apartment as a main theme in my dining room. The dining room is rather bland (table/four chairs), and want something decent looking to spice the room up. I’ve been doing some reading on saltwater verses freshwater, and for the low maintenance aspect, freshwaster seems to be the way to go. I’ve always loved the look of saltwater aquariums, but don’t think I can devote that much time/money into one. I’m not looking to spend an arm and a leg, preferably under six hunder dollars for a somewhat decent setup. I’ve drove past Atlantis on Route 51 a number of times, but have never stopped in to see what he offers. There is also a freshwater hatchery on Joseph Street in Baldwin that sells everything I would need. I would really like to talk to someone that knows their shit to get an idea of what would be the best bang for the buck/middle of the road maintenance, and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
I bought all of my African cichlids from Oddball Aquatics in Baldwin. Good people to deal with. Nice colored fish for freshwater. Typically need to add salt and a buffer, and I try to stick to a 30-40% water change weekly.
ZEXaccord works at a place that deals in aquatics. I’m sure he’ll have some suggestions.
I had a tank a one time I believe it was a 50 gallon or something…My bf at the time took care of it for the most part ( he had more experience with aquariums )
In this tank we had 2 Cichlids: 1 Texas- female and 1 Convict -male We also had a Pike ( can’t remember the spefics on it though )
Anyway, care was easy…actually the fish took great to their surrounding, for we had baby fish within 2 months. After that it was a little more complicated and we definitely went through a learning curve after the lost of 20 plus baby cichlids… but then again the cichlids had babies a second time.
ANYWAY the fresh water tank was neat…would I do it again “myself”---- NO I AM TOO LAZY!
alantis only deals with saltwater fish and corals now.i was just at oddballs the other day.there under new ownership now and there selection sux.elmers is a great place to go.wet pets is good but way overpriced.i just recently bought a 220gallon tank and stand and will be settin up very soon.
