Does anyone have a engine torque dampener on there engine? or any info on them? I am curiouse if they work good and are worth the price? They ussually seem to be in the $150-$200 range…even on EBAY!!! I have the SR20DET but if anyone has any info or experience to share that would be great!
An engine dampener is a small shock absorber that mounts between the engine and the chassis. It reduces engine movement and dampens its motion providing a number of benefits:Improved off-the-line acceleration, Reduced wheel hop, Reduced shock load on driveline components, Reduced wear on exhaust system joints, and Smoother shifting.
i usually have them, in fact i have the damper here it just seems that someone jacked the strut-bracket from me.
i let em go for just over $100 cdn shipped and i will have a few in a couple weeks on my next stocking order.
i also installed one on my car, my review:
not all the torque created by the engine makes it way to the wheels, a fair bit finds its way out in other areas. i should say that i also have brand new nismo mounts and this damper, so the engine doesnt move at all.
the bad thing is that the torque found its way to all the bolts on everything else i just installed…lol
so it started to create a bit of a problem, but i just put lock washers everywhere and was fine after that.
its definately a neat mod to do, party because it’s cheap, you see if right away when you pop the hood so it gets alot of attention too.
definately worth while for the dough.
i’ll be bringing up a hand full in all different colours, proly order 1st week of jan at the latest, lemme know if you want one or anything else. i dont list everything on my site.
all it really is on the inside of the damper is some plastic and a piece of derlyn (i cant spel it) basically a hard urethane chunk that doesnt flex at all. it is not a damper like the struts in our suspension
bing, do you have any ca18 ones ?
sr20 ones are all over the internet but i cant find any for ca18 … if you do, i would be very interested to get one off u
I am aware of how they work physically, I am just curious if they work well. As in, are they worth it or do they hardly do anything?
I am definatly interested…I’ll send you a message in January or Febuary when I have some coin!
Anyone else with some hands on experience? Are they worth it, do they do a good job or should I just get some stiffer motor mounts instead?
i’ll never seen ones for a CA
what i suggest doing is just getting an SR one and using the damper and strut top bracker then fabbing your own engine mount bracket.
i know a couple guys that are doing that on S12’s etc.
