I defend neither Rs or Ds, I cannot find a worthy candidate in either party, except for Ron Paul, but all the other Republicans hate him, so he’s a little different. The media won’t even cover him because he is exactly what this country needs. Federal power and spending need to be gutted as you put it Darkstar.
I saw a good quote in someone’s signature on another forum.
“Diapers and politicians must be changed often, and for the same reason.”
i’m not making blanket statements. i’m trying to REFUTE blanket statements. But i can understand how you missed that. Having a cock tickling the back of your throat can be a bit disconcerting.
Ron Paul is a Libertarian running as a republican. I love him to death. If you like Ron Paul, you should check out Joe Biden. He’s not nearly as conservative as Paul, but he’s rooted in reality and is an extremely rational, experienced, intelligent guy. I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope that Obama and Hillary take each other out and he gets the nomination.
Voted NO on $40B in reduced federal overall spending. (Dec 2005)
Voted NO on prioritizing national debt reduction below tax cuts. (Apr 2000)
#Voted YES on loosening restrictions on cell phone wiretapping. (Oct 2001) #Voted YES on banning drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. (Mar 2005) #Rated F by the NRA, indicating a pro-gun control voting record. (Dec 2003)
Voted YES on $40 billion per year for limited Medicare prescription drug benefit. (Jun 2003)
Voted YES on allowing patients to sue HMOs & collect punitive damages. (Jun 2001)
#Voted YES on reauthorizing the PATRIOT Act. (Mar 2006) #Voted YES on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security. (May 2006) #Voted YES on deducting Social Security payments on income taxes. (May 1996)
I’ll agree that he’s less socialist than the average Democrat, but please don’t vote for him, he is nothing like Ron Paul, in fact I don’t know what you see that’s good about that candidate.
Gun Control is a major issue, any politician who wants to restrict them more, doesn’t support the constitution. If they are too stupid to understand the 2nd amendment they shouldn’t be in office. If they do understand it, and they want to take power out of the hands of the people, then they shouldn’t be in office. There is no good way to oppose guns in this country.
I’m a Democrat (albeit fairly conservative), but I don’t think I would be classified into the stereotype in the first post. Pretty sure I would go bang as well.
i choose my politicians on who I think would be a good leader overall, not on what they voted on what bill or whatever. Previous voting records can be so misleading. Like Biden just voted to fund the troops, but he’s been screaming for an immediate withdraw or all American troops from Iraq for well over a year.
He’s a sensible leader with a good head on his shoulder. He has tons of experience, is masterful when it comes to foreign policy, and would be an amazing president. Bill Maher, who is also super Libertarian, is both huge Biden and Ron Paul fans.
That being said, my favorite politician of all time used to be McCain, but he’s turned into a massive douche over the last couple years. Such a shame.
So let’s just get this straight…you go with who you THINK will be a good leader, and you aren’t concerned with how that person votes…
Interesting way of going about it. I judge a man’s character by his actions, whether or not he takes a stand for things he says he believes. Bush has been a horrific hypocrite in that regard. Ron Paul always votes against congressional pay-raises, that’s a leader I want in office.
Democrats want to create a huge socialistic dependency class through more and more social programs in the guise of “helping their fellow man”. The real motive behind all this is power and money. The more people that they can make dependent on government programs, (started, maintained, and supported by Democrats), the more automatic votes they have in every election. This allows them to hold on to the power they desperately crave.
Not to say that I am not totally disappointed in the Republican party in the last 7 years either. They were once the conservative party, but now I do not see much difference between them and the Democrats.
If Libertarians had a snowball’s chance in hell of electing anyone, I would be right there with them.
Maybe we need a new party, lets just call it the CommonSense party. Our platform would be built on conservative principles like smaller government only performing absolutely necessary government functions (like national defense, building roads, etc.). Stupid ideas like political correctness and affirmative action would be no longer supported. More freedom for individuals would be the norm. Implement the fair tax and watch our economy take off and destroy China’s.
I look at how a person votes, but i take it with a grain of salt. Like if a republican makes a bill that says " its not ok to rape children" and someone down the line tacks in a addendum that says “but it will now be legal to hunt black people as you would phesants” and then someone votes against it, people will say “oh, so and so must think its ok to rape children because they voted against that bill”
a persons voting record is not always indicative of a persons stance on an issue.
interesing point of view. I don’t believe it to be true, but its interesting.

unfortunately, you’re right on that one.

you just perfeclt ydescribed the Libertarian party
Not only do you understand the political machine called liberalism and oppose it, but you understand the solution.
HOWEVER…you think, that supporting a “loser” is not a good solution, so you don’t support the Libertarian party, and it continues to be a loser because people like you won’t change their party affiliation to coincide with their conscience. The Libertarians are the party you want, but you somehow think some “new” party will have a better chance?
Libertarians rank 3rd with # of people in office, I think you can guess the first 2. Get on board, and get your friends on board, otherwise we’re doomed to the socialistic state that you described. We may be doomed to it anyway, but at least move in the right direction.
Don’t abandon the party that embodies your beliefs just because they won’t put a candidate in the White House this year.
I didn’t say it is, I said the left wants to make it one.
There are plenty of them in existence already, in fact, I hear great things about medicine in Canada from my friends who live there…:weak:
Go try one out for a while, and see if you still say the same thing. And I mean get a job there…if you can, hahaha. A vacation doesn’t count because it won’t reveal the economic demons of the socialist state.
The problem with socialist policies is the idea of having people eating from the federal teat.
It gives people a reason to come into the country and scam the system for handouts…we have that problem already.
