Art Degrees, especially ones from expensive schools.

I always lol when people tell me that they are going to school for art…

i can draw art with my penis, does that make me eligible for art school?

yea, i don’t really understand the point of going to school for art… isn’t it kind of a “you can do it or you can’t” type thing?

i don’t think anyone puts their art degrees along side a painting and sells it for more cash

i know people with over 100K in student loans for art schools.

brooks institute wanted me to interview with their director for their photography school… its 35K a year…

hahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

unless they are very good they likely will never sell 10K worth of their art in their lives :frowning:

:biglaugh:

what exactly did they get a degree in?

My sister has about 60k in loans…meanwhile she’s working at a thrift store. hooray fine arts degree.

no offense to your sister, but that just sounds like a lack of motivation. i dont even have my degree yet and im already being offered jobs that i havent applied for yet.

idk what they PLAN on getting a degree in but they’re 3rd year i think.

What exactly does an art degree prepare you for?

The one business class that was probably required for filler
is good enough for a quality McFuture though.

it’s usually girls, too. but they’re dumb to begin with. hopefully “GDW204: advanced gold digging” is part of the curriculum.

… because if you want to make money / be in exhibits / make a name, you have to “know people” - art is no different than a lot of things: it is an old-boys-club endeavor. so you’re buying your way in (or getting a better leg-up to do so) just like “business school” (not MBA but undergrad) students.

my roommate is in his 6th year of undergrad at UB for art

I agree to an extent I know a few artists that did further their natural abiliity with instruction as most artists aren’t taken seriously without a MFA. Either way 100k is a fucking ass load and if you dont make that kind of money kind of a waste. Sort of like early childhood educators who go for a 3 year degree and pay out the ass for school and end up making a cap of 12$ an hour. Now that’s a joke.

buahahahahahahahaahahahahah I do think this falls under one of the NYS Art learning standards :stuck_out_tongue:

agreed lol I was always interested in art classes during gradeschool… but I knew there was no career there, the only thing i considered doing was graphic arts, but thats more computer based in the end anyways.

My friend Donna went to FIT, she took out a ton of school loans to go there, didn’t have parents to pay for school.

She now owns a consulting firm and makes lots of bank and lives in WNY.

So they’re not all losers

EDIT: since some people on here think $80k is a lot of money, She makes about 3-4x that and is under 30

It all depends on your own ability and motivation like anything in life. /thread
