There has been a plant found in the area called Giant Hogweed. Its not native to this area. The sap from this plant is VERY DANGEROUS! Its like 10x worse than poison ivy. You will blister and can not go into the direct sunlight or your skin will blister up like salt on a slug. My father and I were getting compost for a job and he noticed it on the side of the road on County just before transit.
Giant Hogweed is a phototoxic plant. Its sap can cause phytophotodermatitis (severe skin inflammations) when the skin is exposed to sunlight or to UV-rays. Initially the skin colours red and starts itching. Then blisters form as in burns within 48 hours. They form black or purplish scars that can last several years. Hospitalisation may be necessary.[1] Presence of minute amounts of sap in the eyes can lead to temporary or even permanent blindness. These reactions are caused by the presence of linear derivatives of furocoumarin in its leaves, roots, stems, flowers and seeds. These chemicals can get into the nucleus of the epithelial cells, forming a bond with the DNA, causing the cells to die.
Its been around for some time actually. Every summer I have been offered jobs to remove it from different areas around the state. Its a pretty sweet gig and they give you all the equipment to remove it safely, I just hate working out in the sun.
It gets fucking big too. The areas they need it removed normally goes in with chainsaws and they need man power to haul that shit out. When I read what it did to your skin, theres no way I was going to carry armfuls of that shit against my chest for $15 bucks an hour, no matter what protection they gave me
maybe we can get a few Amherst Kiddies to go searching through a patch if we tell them theres a nice new shiny set of altezza tailights waiting for them inside

im just paranoid now because im about a halfmile past the canal/creek north of amherst.
you can tell em easy by the size and shape of the leaves, theyre huge, and the stalks get pretty big around, maybe upto 3 inches in diameter. We had em everywhere in Elma , the state sent some specially trained dudes in crazy lookin spacesuits to removed them, not just kill them but pull em right out of the ground, roots and all. These fuckers multiply like crazy, if u find one near you do something about it quick.
oh nice… i was camping at arrowhead and walked right ontop of where they MOVED one of those down… i’m fine, it was a few weeks ago… but shit… it’ll be everywhere
