What kind of problems did you experience with a bad CAS?
Would a faulty CAS just cause the motor to drop dead while it’s idling?
And you cant replace teh CAS without buying the entire distributor
assembly right?

SR’s are distributorless ignition. ie no distributor.
What engine do you have? i thought you had the KA?
That’s why he said CAS, not distributor.
I am pretty sure you can get a new sensor for it from heavy throttle or something, I believe I have seen them before. Essentially it is a plate with multiple holes in it that a light shines through… pulses of the light dictate position. You could take the cover off it and check to make sure the disk isn’t damaged or corroded from water in it or something. Simple check. I would have a hard time believing it would be the cause of stalling myself, usually they just go, as in it wouldn’t rev up properly either.
Does it misfire at all before it stalls?
S13gg had this problem…
His car would run fine until you hit boost and if you went past 1/2 throttle.
It misfired a bit randomly or once in boost I believe as well.
It got to a point where the car wouldnt start no more and had to be played with to get going. I dont think it was every stalling once running thou ?
MSG him about it… he went throu hell trying to figure out what was wrong with his car.
Wasn’t aware of the SR’s distributorless system.
I know what a CAS is and how it operates (to a sense). I’m wondering if
that’s waht causeing a shaky idle, unexpected stalling, and sometimes
odd throttle response (i.e. you give throttle and its not revving smoothly).
Yeah, SR’s have 1 coil pack per cylinder.
As for this throttle problem, could be your TPS, Throttle Position Sensor. If it’s out, this idle and stall problem would happen. Have you also checked that your injector’s are good? If not, put a test light to them while the car is running and make sure they are all working right.
Good luck man and I hope you figure this out soon.
Take care.
Easy 8)
Replaced cap and it didnt do much.
Going to replace distributor rotor tomorow and see where I go from there.
This is too frustrating.
I wonder what mechanics do in this kind of situation?
I figure they just starte replacing one part at a time until one of them
solves the problem.
And then they hand you a big fat bill.
Both KA’s and SR’s have Crank Angle Sensors…
atleast his ka idles.
If only you knew
Mechanics just hook it upto a diag system and they can see exactly what the problem is… whether its the spark being erratic or the fuel and they go from there… makes it alot easier.
Well i am in the same boat as you sir… i cant get my timing right (but i think there is more too it) I have got in it to run kina once but i was running crappy. was misfiring like crazy and the only way it would stay running is if i kepd my foot on the gas… so i put it a tooth forward and i would not run put it back and then it flooded. I have been playing for 5 (today will be 6) days now. Let me konw how you make out if you find the problem.
