SR runs strong stalls at idle

So I’ve been trying to figure out what this problem is all about but i’m still stumped. My car can’t hold idle anymore it use to idle at about 900 but now it will just slow down and stall.

I thought that it was just my alternator that had gone bad. I got it tested and it was dead, i replaced it with a good one that i also tested. I also tested the battery its all good. I don’t think its a fuel problem because once i’m driving above 1500rpms all is fine pulls hard. The problem started pretty randomly I was just on the qew a friend turned on an interior light then turned it off, i got off the highway, first stop light i came to it died.

I adjusted my idle so the car won’t stall on me now but it holds idle at 1600 which is working but there has to be a problem.

I still think the problem is electrical, I can watch my voltage through my safc and its kind of low 12.4 range. I’m not sure what else to check. I took off my sound system still no help. I disconnected my electric fans still nothing. What could this be a bad ground? I’m not sure how to check for that either.

Do these just give out with old age? my engines around 75,000

Check for any boost leaks.
Does it run stupid rich?

I don’t think there are any boost leaks my boost gauge still goes to 7 where it should.

If anything its running more lean than it was before. I don’t have a wideband but i do have a gauge hooked to the o2 and its lean most of the time stoich after its warmed up.

And now with the idle adjusted it seems happy as long as its above 1500 it will idle happily at 2000 then slow drops to 1200 were it idles very rough.

holy crap, ur voltage is in the 12’s. Damn, you got some voltage problems, either that alternator isn’t alive, or its hooked up bad, or your battery really isn’t good. Or you have some sort of electrical problem. Should be 13.5 - 14.2.

yeah i know the 12’s is not good. i’ve changed the alt already for a good one i had tested same with the batt. How could i have hooked it up badly theres only the one plug and and the screw on bolt. Would this be a bad ground somewhere? how do i go about finding my electrical problem? a test light is that it?

its not necessarily bad in the 12s as long as its high 12s thats if its hard wired to the batt

Did u put ur battery in the trunk? When i first did my SR it would idle around 11volts and even flyin down the highway just over 12v. Ran a few extra grounds from the block to the chassis and a heavier ground off the battery to the chassis. (my battery is in the trunk) now its almost perfect.

I fixed my stalling issue it ended up just being a vacum line that had cracked thanks for the help

My battery is in the back. I put a new ground from the block it helped i’m now at 12.6 volts. I was wondering how many grounds you put in. Also how do you have it connected to the negative side of the battery? mine is just bolted to the floor of the trunk is that good enough or should i be going down to frame rail.

Im glad you figured out your problem. But to answer your question. The CAS does wear out after time. It can cause stalling and bogging during heavy acceleration. Ive seen your problem turn into a cas problem to many times. Thats why i threw it out there

ive got 3 wires coming off the ground on my battery into the trunk. only cuz i have 4gauge wires there instead of a big fat 0gauge like i used for my positive. mine are all bolted down in the trunk somewhere. what kind of voltmeter do u have cuz mines apparently a piece of shit and runs at like 13.2 or something then i had my consult connected to it and it said voltage was 14.6 on the dot which is bang on perfect.

Any help was greatly appreciated I’ll keep the cas in mind if I run into this again. This is my first car so I’m still have a lot to learn.

I’m using my apexi safc to read the voltage. I’m really not sure how accurate that is. My voltage is still low though highway cruise it was right at 12.0. I’m just using a single 0 gauge off from my batt to the trunk I’ll try running a few other wires off it and see if that helps.

When you say you added a few grounds from the block how many is a few? I put a 0 gauge wire between the intake mani and my shock tower. Connected where the stock one runs to the battery tray. Would adding another help i know it can’t hurt but will i notice a difference or is my problem somewhere else in the electrical system?

thanks again for the info
