I acually had to buy the ecc bolts for the knuckle from the dealer and they were $44 for the pair, retail (I only have an accout at the VW dealership, Audi here is owned by a diff company and the parts dont cross to VW, I tried)
I just had a set break off in the lower spindle adjuster too, had to do the bushings, and bolts too… expensive batch of parts even @ wholesale. Bolts, washers, nuts, and it’s 2 bushings each… doubly awesome @ $$$$ ea x4, FML.
Shitty. I thought for sure I was going to break one. I had to use a huge breaker bar to get it turning, then put the impact on it to get it spinning fast. Then pound it through some, repeat spinning, pound thru more… ugh.
Getting the rear eccentric bolts out of my Avant was a BITCH!!! I ended up pounding them out with a 3/8" extension and I destroyed the extension beyond recgonition. It took about 1 hour of solid pounding per side.
Finally got a chance to tackle the rear tie rods yesterday (life has been more than hectic the last few months). I ended up cutting nearly through both ends of the bolt inside the U part of the subframe where they mount with a sawzall. It took a while, but it worked pretty good. Then a quick twist of the bolt head and nut to shear off what I didnt manage to cut through. The outer ball joint was stuck pretty good too. A bit of fire and some pounding and air hammering did the trick. The outer ball joint was totally shot, Im lucky it didnt come apart yet by the looks of it.
Got the pass side swapped in just under an hour, same method as above. Was a little faster this time without my daughter sweeping up around me every time I stopped pulling the trigger on the sawzall, lol.
