Audi People - Problem 1 with my A4 1.8T

Thanks for the input. Like I said they are nice people to deal with, but if they aren’t checking timing belts in Audi’s, who knows what else they aren’t doing.

I actually had a 98 1.8t before I got the S4. I miss it…

Yeah they are hard to check too. If they don’t have documentation that they were changed don’t trust it. Typically the tensioner breaks before the belt does, so you can’t tell by looking at the belt. Other issues are if the bearing in the idler pulley fails, or the waterpump fails, there goes the Tbelt.

Foreign Traffic does know what they are doing, I worked there in high school. They aren’t cheap at all! But you will know it’s done right!

Pull the head, replace the water pump, belt, tensioner (pulling the pan isn’t a lot of fun)…Then see which intake valves are bent, replace them @ 20 bux a pop and re-install. GL-Mark Morris should be able to do this with his eyes closed

Well, I think I’m sold.

The fit and finish of the TT is great, it’s really comfortable.

They have 2, a silver AWD 225hp roadster model, and a 180hp FWD coupe model. I am set on a black coupe, and the 180hp model is their black one. I don’t really care about the power, but AWD would be nice for winter, but it isn’t a necessity at all.

Someone either didn’t tell Rick about the prices, or he was lying through his teeth. I’m sitting in the roadster (the black one was outside and it was raining) just to get a feel for it, and I say “The black is 10,900 sticker, right?” He says “No, it’s 13,900. It’s never been 10,900.” He tells me the roadster is 14,900. So, I wasn’t buying today anyways, so I got his card and came home to double check their prices on Craigslist - http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/car/637891393.html

$10,900 for the coupe, and 13,900 for the roadster.

Jesse, get a 225.

Why the 225? Same motor, no? Just minor differences I thought.

The car is going to mechanically probably stay 100% stock. As long as the car can get out of it’s own way, I’m fine with it. If I was looking for another “sports” car, I’d be buying my buddies DSM.

TTs AWD sucks it is not even Quattro. My buddy is an Audi mechanic he knows Audis. He said he’d never get a TT.

“The Audi’s 6-speed manual is paired to an AWD system that is essentially FWD until front-wheel slippage occurs” = Shit AWD not anything near Quattro. I can’t believe they even badge it a Quattro showed be a crime cause it is in NO way Quattro…really only a glorified FWD

Matt

I don’t personally care if it’s AWD or FWD, but the FWD 180’s are cheaper, and that’s what I’m leaning towards.

They sell controller to regulate that  They sell 2 6spds…1 is an 02J code which came on the 180’s…and the other is 02M which came on the 225’s IIRC…the 225 is much nicer IMO

The 225 has the K04 turbo rather then the k03. Ko4 is a very popular upgrade for all audi/vw 1.8ts and 2.7ts.

The 225 tt has stronger diverter valves, 6-speed manual rather than 5-speed, and the dual exhaust out the rear. I don’t think any internals are upgraded, but may be wrong.

Either way you can easily put the k04 on the 180 and get over 225hp, but you can also just chip the 225 and get a decent boost in power. But you aren’t planning on doing any of that. Either way if you did get tired of the 180 after you got it, you could just chip it and get over 200hp out of it safely.

225 has lower compression and forged internals too.

225 doesn’t have forged internals. Better than the 180s. The 180s are pretty much identical to the VW 1.8Ts. The 225s are closer to the older VW 1.8ts. 225s = 9:1. 180s = 9.5:1.

I’d get the 225. Trans is better, turbo is better, resell value is better. 225 can hold somewhere into the ~350whp range, 180 can hold ~300whp range. By the time you’re making that power you better do rods. Pistons are great in both… rods are garbage.

OP, I sent you a PM… and I’m going to send a second now. Just let me know.

That’s a different k04 then what they upgrade on the 1.8T’s. k04-015xxxx…the 2.7t’s have different k04 turbo’s also, they are very similar to the k04-020xxxx…lower compression as stated…bigger 20mm wrist pins…forged crank but not the strongest rods…the biggest difference is awd vs fwd and the TT225 makes it much nicer stock then a 180 even if both are AWD

Update: After a month of dicking around with these assholes, after many threats of suit and filing with the Attorney General, and a month of them ignoring our calls and making up excuses, the owner of the dealership came forward. He claimed he had no idea that this was going on, and said that it will be paid in full and the car will be returned in a week or two. The owner has already paid the mechanic, and said the car should be back within a week, two at the latest. All the people that work at the dealership were just idiots. The owner sounds like the only sensible one.

= I win.

glad to hear. hopefully it holds up for you
