The 4L60E in the old car has been getting shitty with sloppy shifting, and is in need of some repair. I’ve come across a local trans with stock convertor from a '94 Camaro. Has a shift kit and the owner claims to have gone through it when putting the shift kit in…and that it is ready to rock, as is, shifts great blah blah blah.
I know very little about these things…how can I ‘inspect’ this thing when it’s out of the car?
well to put the shift kit in, you dont have to really take anything apart. just the valve body, so there is a chance that he didnt go thru it at all.
Without being able to drive it, it really is a guessing game, but if you can look at the fluid that will tell a ton. (see if he will pop the pan on it)
look for anything in the bottom of the pan other than rtv, any sludge, grit, metal shavings, and look for grey death, which is grey or dark dark colored almost gooey liquid.
Look at the input shaft ect, there isnt realllly a ton you can do without driving it.
