AV nerds, pros and cons of Plasma vs LCD

My biggest difference I saw was that plasmas have deeper blacks and faster refreshes. I can notice the ghosting on fast movies in LCDs so i have always been a plasma person. You gotta get a bigger than 37" tho if you are getting a plasma.

They are starting to make 32" plasmas actually. Insignia already has one out.

some of the newer lcds are very nice with no ghosting at all, but you will never get the black level out of a lcd like plasma. Each has its pros and cons, like i said my plasma uses alot of electricity and gets hot.

LCD’s now, out of the box, un-calibrated, don’t run much cooler than Plasmas. Calibrated is a different story though.

I just bought an olivia 37 inch lcd.

Couldn’t be happier for it.

599, no tax no shipping.

The LCD uses much less power than a plasma.

The picture is great, a plasma will look better if you have a darkened room, but if you have a regular room that light comes into, then a lcd will be more appropriate.

The black level in the lcd is not as good as the plasma. But what can be expected for a 599 television?

Its absolutely fine, and hooked up to time warner’s crappy compressed HD service, it looks amazing.

Over the air HD probably looks even better.

it does not matter if the lcd was 599 or 59999999 it will never reach the dark blacks of plazma, price has nothing to do with it, its the technology that does. Not sure about the lcd having a better pic with OTA, my plasma looks damn nice with OTA and dtv.

DLP-Digital Light Processing, its the mirrors man. You can get 3 chip or 1 chip. And thats all i know since i dont have one, nor will ever own one.

I never said the black level on the lcd was great, its not.

Honestly, for the price it works absolutely fine for my purposes.

I’m not a videophile.

The picture looks amazing to my novice eye.

My old TV was a 30 inch philips hdtv crt, and the image quality on the lcd is very similar.

The only annoying thing about the lcd is that it takes like 20 seconds to from pushing the on button to viewing tv. Maybe it runs linux or something and has to boot?
