I want to get the entire drivetrain from a Skyline for my Datsun
Get a VH45DE engine from an Infiniti Q45… 4.5L V8. Mate it to the Skyline Tranny.
AWD Datsun… I’m drewling.
Sad to say it would be my winter daily driver. Most would call it a beater.
It’s worth almost nothing on paper. It has 269XXXKM. Insurance would write it off at first shot in any accident. And I’ve designed it with a very love/hate design.
Not to mention the paint is HORRIBLE now.
But every time I drive it I felt like I don’t want to ever drive anything else ever again. Every bit of the money pit that it is.
I don’t know. I look at it every day and I feel more and more like I want to tear it down and start over like it’s my Leggo car or something.
What do you guys think? Does anyone know if this has been effectively done of a 510 or a 240Z or something?
you should talk to the guys at neetronics. they currently have a datsun 220 that was so ridiculously powerful that it topped out their dyno at 1100whp but was still going. its running a rb26 from a r32 gtr.
Blahh… It’s unrepairable. No amount of wetstanding/buffing will fix that paint.
It was a completely budget paint and looked great when I first did it.
You’re gonna laugh. I actually went to walmart and got somewhere around 12 cans of primer, 12 cans of lacquer blue and 12 can’t of acrylic clear.
Lauquer paint works fine under the acrylic, but if you want to do a base clear touchup where you need colour then don’t put the lacquer on top of the colour. Worst thing you can do guaranteed.
Did it all in my garage at the cold end of fall with a heater. It was 10 - 12degrees celcius outside and probably around 15 inside.
Surprisingly it came out really good and held up for the first few months. I actually drove it every day that winter until March when I changed jobs and decided to get a true beater car (Audi CoupeGT)
All in all I had a crappy setup to begin with. I forced it through the harsh winter/salt/snow before it ever really cured. Didn’t treat it properly when I stopped driving it and that’s that.
Now I can actually afford to get a better paint job when I get it back up.
When I did the primer I did it in flat black. I think at the time I felt the flat black looked better than what it is now.
The ventilation in my garage was not that great and I felt pretty high at the time. Lets just say I was too excited to do the colour coat.
I took some pictures of it then but I haven’t developed them yet (old camera)
I probably won’t do anything without a shine to it. It seems a little too “work” to me and shine = class.
I would’ve done it in black, but my dad has something severe against black cars.
Black cars = Mafia in his head, so I painted it blue to make him happy but I think the colour was way too unsatisfying.
Trust me, it didn’t make him any happier when I bought my 300ZX, and again when I limo tinted the windows. I think he expected the chrome rims.
He won’t have a say when I paint the Datsun again though. If I’m spending 5G on paint I’m getting something that I want. GLOSS GLOSS BLACK… mmmmmmmmmm
I like your project. I don’t think you’ll be able to keep it flat black, because the rims would look strange. Glossy black would suit the rims more, I think…
As for the drivetrain combo? DAMN GOOD IDEA, I call dibs for a test ride when its done!
The only think I have to overcome in my head is the high km and the skyline equipment prices.
It’s not for resale but if I get into an accident and the insurance company looks at it, they’ll write it off. I could get it appraised but then my rates will skyrocket before hand.
hmmmmmm Skyline engine/transmission…actually the entire front clip of a GTR?
AWD tranny and front suspension. And possibly the rear diff to keep the right gear ratio? I figure it’s an R200 diff like what I have in there now, but my gear ration is something like 3.2:1
ill just bring you down to ji and you can do your shopping there. they have a lot of spare skyline parts in stock as well as a parts gts-t car. but most of it is gone already.
