Another thing, and I cannot say how IMPORTANT this is…
DO NOT BY ANY MEANS BUY CHEAP GEAR.
You have one head, one body, one life. No one can put a price on that.
With saying that, the initial cost of all this can be daunting, but I swear…it’s like nothing else in the world. The second you get your permit and ride your bike, you’re hooked. The bike community is one of the most amazing things you’ll ever be a part of.
Where can i find the MSF in rochester? As Ride with pride seems to be out by you buffalo guys. and where can i find good gear? Any suggestions on walk-in stores or websites?
MSF in rochester…hmmm. Lemme check for you on that one.
Good gear, that’s up to you. I recommend buying a helmet in person, because you can’t test fit one online. HJC makes decent helmet, but they are somewhat heavy. Shoei and Arai make amazing helmets.
As for jackets, IMO leather is the way to go. Textile are nice, but if you do go down, they won’t hold up on well as leather will.
For gear, expect to spend at least 200-450 on a jacket, and for helmets expect at least 300-600 depending on what you decide. Don’t buy a helmet cuz it looks cool plz. Get a helmet that will protect you the best, and then go off of style. Look for DOT and SNELL approved helmets.
I’m sure the guys on here can vouch for me on this one.
ah ok, I found the MANYS list before but had no idea what it was, i’ll go find myself a course
and thanks guys, i appreciate you holding my hand with this lol, i’ll try and do some more research on my own, in the mean time, looks like my process will be study for permit, get permit, buy gear as I can afford it, take MSF when I can afford it, get license, get bike and insurance when i can afford it
I bought the bike straight out, so need for full. I only opted for theft cause of the bike, I know its nothing special, but it still turns heads and some in the wrong way.
damn i have progressive too with an 08 gsxr 600 and an 09 harley, both of them with full coverage is under 750 a year lol…tell your insurance agent he/she sucks at life
My first bike was a ninja 250 and i loved it. Easy to learn on, light and agile. I did not keep it long, most people don’t. I bought a ninja 636 this past summer and will have that for a while.
I definitely recommend starting out small, if I had jumped right on my 636 I would have crashed the first day, it is a big jump.
Don’t go cheap on gear, can’t say that enough. And oh ya don’t forget to wear it.(Easier said than done)
It takes a good full summer of riding to get good at driving a motorcycle. It takes time, remember that and have fun.
My ninja 250 insurance was $150 and my 636 is around $300. Insurance is cheaper if the bike is paid off.
