Beer on an Airplane? v.Checked Baggage

I have been looking into this for awhile now. I am flying down to FL this weekend and we want to bring some Blue/Canadian since it is unavailable down there.

I have talked to Southwest/Buffalo Airport, and they told me as long as it is properly packaged it shouldn’t be a problem.

We are planning on bringing a 30 pack each.

Has anyone on here ever packed beer in with their checked baggage? If so, what did you do? Did it make it alright despite pressure changes? Cans/Bottles?

i’d be worried about bottles breaking.

whats a 30 rack weigh? will that put you over the typical 50 lb limit for checked bags?

I have brought micro brews back from different places I have traveled, and never had an issue. Always bubble wrapped and packed in my check bags.

why would you want to bring shitty beer to FL?

I brought back bottled beer from Germany in my checked baggage before. Didn’t cause any issues.

We are planning on bringing cans. I would absolutely use bubble wrap/clothing as padding.

I believe a 30 rack is roughly 25-30 lbs, but Southwest allows you to check TWO bags free of charge. So one bag will be for the majority of my clothes, 2nd bag will be for the beer/clothes for padding.

Just made sure FL isn’t a state that prohibits bringing alcohol in or out of the state. In NV it’s illegal to do such things. Other than that I’d just pack it well and you should be fine.

Sweet, thanks

I have made this trip the past couple years, and the only beers you will find down there (in decent quantity) are Miller (not a chance), Bud and Coors. Of course there are off brands but it is also roughly the same price for an 18 pack down there as it is for a 30 here.

Blue isn’t bad for what it’s worth.

I’d double bag it in a couple of trash bags just in case one can pops.

Southwest is 2 free bags; but they have to be under 50#s each.

Otherwise you should be fine, but I agree with Fry… Double-wrap it.

I can’t believe you’d take blue with you to Florida. Is your trip seriously that long you can’t go without it? There are other beers such as any buds/cors/mic which are pretty close to blue and taste fine. Plus Spanish beers rock too. I can’t fathom bringing my own beer on vacation.

It’s not so much for me, but for my friends who live down there and don’t get a chance to drink it. It isn’t the only beer we will be drinking, and most nights we will be out at the bars.

Coors, Miller and Michelob are completely different than Blue. I personally won’t even touch Coors/Miller. But if you’re looking at it from a microbrew/rare brew perspective, then I would agree that all generic beers are in the same category.

Good idea, thanks

Awh bringing it for friends to try is noble.

LOL I guess that I am very white.

FTR, I am going to St. Augustine, FL. They have a brewery right in the city; “A1A Ale Works”. We tried all of their selections last year, here is a webpage

Maybe you could sell your fine canadian beer to some suckers for profit and get better beer when you are there?

I managed to find blue and molson at a beer/liquor store in Vero beach…$8 a 6-pack.

Just drink Kalik.
