This Saturday, 11/24/07, please consider stopping by St. Leo’s on Sweethome Road for a benefit for 22 yr old Jacquie Hirsch. There is no admission fee for the benefit and it will run from 2-7 p.m. Jacquie is a student at Geneseo and has been diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL). She is in her second round of chemo treatment and is in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant to save her life.
There will be FREE testing for the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) and Jacquie and her family are praying they find a match. Sadly, no one in her family is a match. This bone marrow test is quite simple and pain-free – they simply swab the inside of your cheek and that’s it! If you are a match for Jacquie or another person on the registry, you could be asked to take additional FREE testing and you could possibly save someone’s life.
In addition to the bone marrow testing, there will be a spaghetti dinner, Chinese auction, and a silent auction. More than all the money that will be raised to help Jacquie’s family during this time, the family’s main hope is to find a donor match to save Jacquie’s life.
If you’re in the neighborhood of St. Leo’s on Sat., please consider stopping in to help support Jacquie and her family. Who knows, perhaps there’s a lifesaver among us.
